    Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Anywhere)

    We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Software Engineering Department. Software Engineering at M-KOPA works within small team of engineers, product managers, and testers to deliver solidly architected + tested services, and to maintain those services in production.

    In this role you will be expected to:

    • Deliver high quality backend code into production on a regular basis
    • Build and maintain delivery pipelines and alerting to support a devops culture
    • Work collaboratively with other developers in multiple time zones
    • Have commercial experience with with C#.
    • Ideally have knowledge of azure and AKS or other containerized application deployment tools.
    • Ideally have knowledge of the financial services industry.
       

    You Might Be A Good Fit If You…

    • Have a degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience/self-directed learning - We care much more about your skills than about how you acquired them!
    • Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a professional software engineer/architect on medium/large scale distributed systems.
    • Have commercial experience with C#.
    • Have experience shipping high-quality backend code into production.
    • Have experience orchestrating and managing cloud infrastructure (preferably in the infrastructure-as-code paradigm, or a willingness to learn).
    • Are comfortable with the devops culture, and with the idea of being involved with the management of the systems that you build through their entire lifecycle.
    • Have a collaborative spirit and a strong desire to learn from teammates and to work as part of a team that is greater than the sum of its parts.
    • Have experience building software for the financial services industry, although this is not essential.
       

    This position will report to a Principal Engineer and can be based anywhere where possible to work within a time zone -1/+3 hours UTC. We can offer a full-time permanent contract of employment to candidates’ resident in the UK, Kenya, Uganda or Nigeria, where our offices are based, together with a competitive salary (dependent on skills and experience), company bonus (dependent on company performance and OKRs), and a range of company benefits. For applicants who are resident in countries outside of where our offices are based, we can offer a 3 year consultancy contract, together with a freelance daily rate and an annual bonus incentive. You will also need to travel as needed to Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, and/or Ghana to engage with our customers and in-country teams.
