    WIFI Hotspot Technician

    SALARY: 30,000-45000

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • The selected candidates should possess expertise in the following areas:
    • Optical Fiber, Transport Design, Capacity/Planning, and the ability to test and analyze fiber characterization test results, which includes Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) traces, source-power meter, and dispersion measurements.
    • Handling Multi-Mode Fiber (MMF) and Single Mode Fiber (SMF) cables, splice cases, Fiber Distribution Panels (FDPs), drop cables, splitters, and SFPs.
    • Working knowledge of Microwave P2P radio technology with a strong understanding of ubiquity and cambium radios.
    • Excellent command over Microtip Router configuration, Ubiquiti, and cambium access points.
    • Good understanding of IP addressing and subnet masking is a must.
    • Installing indoor/outdoor wireless P2P Radios to establish connections between hostels and the Main HUB where there is a clear line of sight, and Fiber installation is not cost-effective.
    • Extending fiber drop cables from the KPLC lines and installing access points to ensure connectivity to student hostels, while continuously testing the overall system performance.
    • Maintaining Microtip routers to set up local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN) that serve a large WIFI hotspot center.
    • Troubleshooting daily user issues, including restarting APs during KPLC outages.
    • Addressing user voucher subscription issues and resolving them as required.
    • Preparing and testing CAT6 cables onsite, running cables from the PoE switches to the APs and other wireless systems.
    • Splicing fibers using fiber machines and installing fiber splitters to distribute fiber strands to different hostels from the junction location.

    Key job qualifications, skills and requirement.

    • Minimum Diploma in Computer Science/Math/Electrical or equivalent work experience.
    • Prior experience in networking, IT, especially WIFI, or related fields.
    • Familiarity with Microtip routers and ubiquity WIFI equipment mentioned in the job responsibilities.
    • Strong troubleshooting skills and knowledge of Fiber technology.
    • Familiarity with network-related components such as IP addressing, network cabling, Cisco routers, Cisco switches, Ubiquiti APs, Mikrotik, Cable testers, CAT6 Crimping tools, Transceivers (SFP), etc.
    • Understanding of Network wired/wireless technologies and terminologies, including Hotspot, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, TCP/IP, HTTP/XML, VOIP/Video Quality, etc.
    • Knowledge of GPON OLT/ONT fiber technology. (h) Fully proficient in using the internet and cell phone communications.
    • Skill in website building and/or scripting will be considered a plus.
    • Knowledge of operating a motorbike would be advantageous, as you may need to visit sites during troubleshooting.
    • Preferred candidates should be from the Rongo, Migori County Area, where the HQ of the WIFI services is located.

    • Must possess a reliable working cell phone and be reachable 24x7 by clients in case of network issues.
    • May be required to stay close to the server room or within the Hostel hosting the hub. Room, board, water, and electricity will be provided.
