    Associate Public Information Officer (Multimedia Producer)

    Responsibilities

    • Produces and edits multimedia content
    • Creates and edits multimedia content such as photography, filmmaking, animation, data visualization, music, design, and translation, ensuring high quality and adherence to UNEP standards.
    • Conducts research, writes scripts, directs productions, and edits multimedia materials to effectively convey UNEP’s messages and initiatives.
    • Supports planning and implementation
    • Assists in planning and implementing the Multimedia Unit’s activities, contributing to the timely and efficient execution of projects.
    • Offers insights and recommendations to the Communications Division on multimedia strategies and initiatives to enhance UNEP’s outreach and engagement.
    • Provides client services to UNEP’s Divisions and monitors impact
    • Assists clients across UNEP divisions, evaluating the impact of multimedia content on UNEP’s website and digital platforms to optimize engagement and effectiveness.
    • Supports procurement and implements best practices - Develops protocols and procedures to streamline multilingual multimedia production and effectively manage UNEP’s digital and media assets.
    • Oversees asset management and distribution
    • Manages asset systems, archives, and oversees dissemination, distribution, and broadcast of multimedia content to ensure accessibility and preservation.
    • Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
    • Performs other duties as assigned
    • Undertakes additional responsibilities as delegated by the Head of Multimedia, contributing to the overall objectives of the Unit.

    Education

    • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in media/multimedia production, production management, film making, or related area is required.
    • A first level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in multimedia, filmmaking and/or broadcast journalism is required.
    • Experience producing multimedia content about the environment or related science-based subject is required
    • Experience in an international environment is desirable.
    • One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable (none if successful YPP or P-1 with a related degree).

    Consultant on TEEB AgriFood National Implementation

    Specific duties include the following.

    • Steer and lead communication between implementing partners Strathmore University and the Kenyan government at national and county levels.
    • Support the policy stakeholder engagement to strengthen the policy relevance of the project (eg Steering Committee participation) including the study scope, the definition of scenarios and the key performance indicators which will be measured.
    • Develop a strategy for engaging policy makers and for mainstreaming TEEBAgriFood analytical results into applicable policy processes in each study County, and at the Federal level, including identifying key government focal points and other stakeholders who should be consulted.
    • Review interim and final TEEBAgriFood study deliverables and offer guidance for how the results are/are not relevant for County and National policy priorities.
    • Consult with key high-level Kenyan government stakeholders to determine options for policy mainstreaming of the Mau Forest Complex, Loita Hills, and Cherangani TEEBAgriFood studies. These consultations should begin with the Project Steering Committee and include discussions at Deputy Secretary level in the Ministries or equivalent.
    • Prepare a TEEBAgriFood policy mainstreaming report to include the following elements:
    • Based on government stakeholder consultations, how the findings in the TEEBAgriFood project in these counties can contribute to key policy priorities of the Kenyan government, including but not limited to priorities for natural resource management, rural development, gender empowerment, national biodiversity strategy and action plans (NBSAPs), food security, and sustainable agriculture.
    • How implementing the study recommendations can contribute to Kenya’s obligations and objectives under key international policy commitments and initiatives, including but not limited to, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification;
    • Make recommendations for communicating project approach and results; contribute to the communications strategy that has been developed for the TEEBAgriFood Kenya applications.
    • Develop a multi-agency workplan for creating a monitoring framework for the revised NBSAP.
    • Provide technical support on a review of opportunities for achieving policy coherence with the GBF, focusing on the food and agriculture sectors.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent), preferably with a specialization in environmental governance, environmental management, law, social anthropology, environment and development, sustainable development, economics, applied economics, biology, agriculture, or related fields is required.
    • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • A minimum of two years’ experience working with different branches of the Government of Kenya, including at senior level, on issues pertaining to agriculture and the environment is required.

    Communication Consultant

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Design the Communication and Outreach Strategy (COS) for the Source to Sea project and key areas of work, in close consultation with the other colleagues in the Branch, Communications Division, project partners and other relevant stakeholders, including its ‘First Year Implementation Plan’, and two annexes one for the Global Wastewater Initiative (GWWI) and another for the Global Partnership on Nutrient Management (GPNM).
    • Design the Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) of the two Branch projects, in close consultation with project partners and other relevant stakeholders.
    • Implement the COS and SEP for the Source to Sea project and key areas of work, including the production of press releases, web stories, technical highlights, social media cards, videos, briefing notes, speeches, presentations, Op-Eds, other communication products for key events/dates; regular and special issues newsletters for GPNM and GWWI; any other awareness raising material as required to increase knowledge on the related topics among various relevant stakeholders.
    • Monitoring and Reporting: monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of communication strategies and activities; prepare regular progress reports, including analysis of communication trends and recommendations for adjustments to the strategy.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, graphic design, marketing, or a closely related field is required.
    • Master’s degree in journalism, Communications or related field is desirable.
    • Minimum of 7 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in the field of in communications and outreach, is required
    • Proven track record of creating, designing and using at least 30 high quality communications products, such as web stories, fact sheets, press releases, social media cards and other assets, in international organization is desirable
    • Experience in designing and implementing stakeholder engagement plans is desirable
    • Experience working inclusively and collaboratively with a diverse array of partners, encompassing grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, as well as authorities at various levels.
    • Additionally, be familiar with communication tools and approaches for development. Proficient in database management; highly computer literate with a strong familiarity with office technological equipment.
