    Intern - Risk and Internal Controls, I

    Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

    Responsibilities

    Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the interns' assigned office as well as the internship period.

    Under the supervision of the Officer-in-Charge of the Oversight and Internal Controls Unit (MACS), the intern will:

    • Support in undertaking periodic and ad hoc reviews independently or with relevant managers in HQ, Regional, country and field offices to assess the effectiveness of the internal controls, identify risk areas, assess the potential for fraud and corruption in operational activities and recommend required actions to the relevant units or management level.
    • Support to monitor and report on the follow-up of the implementation of audit, and other oversight bodies’ recommendations and associated management actions.
    • Assist in preparing annual performance planning and reviews, risk assessment and updating of risk registers, including operational level risk registers and progress towards implementing the risk mitigation actions.
    • Prepare periodic progress reports on the status of compliance and internal controls in the office.
    • Liaise with colleagues in HQ, ROs, and when necessary COs, which are the focal point for risk analysis and monitoring.
    • Keep up to date on documents/reports/guidelines that have a bearing on matters related to programme budgets, ensuring compliance with intergovernmental recommendations and decisions as well as with United Nations policies and procedures.
    • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

    Intern - Software Development, I

    • Under the direct supervision of the Chief Urban Basic Services Section, the intern will:
    • Support the development process of a mobile application.
    • Design user interface and physical and conceptual database of an anti-racism app, as reporting tool for the agency.
    • Test, maintain and update the anti-racism app. Propose solutions to simplify, enhance and maintain the web.
    • Support other interns’ work and digitalization of the section’s publications.
    • Draft visual communication (layout, color, typography, icons, etc.).

    Intern - Programme Management, I

    Intern - Events and Outreach, I

    Responsibilities

    • Under the direct supervision of the Public Information Assistant, the intern will:
    • Assist the team in organizing flagship events by overseeing logistics, preparing invitations, preparing lists of participants and other related tasks assigned.

    • Contribute to developing work streams and event roadmaps to meet set targets on time.

    Intern - Data Science, I

    • Support the development of database design and architecture documentation for relevant SDG Scorecard and Youth 2030 Cities team members
    • Support the development of the SDG Scorecard and Youth 2030 Cities’ data collection frameworks
    • Support the creation of data monitoring models for the SDG Scorecard, other Youth 2030 Cities’ outputs and work with marketing and communications personnel to create models ahead of new releases.

    • Support the development of data privacy processes
    • Support the development of a process to help maintain the integrity and security of the SDG Scorecard’s database

    Intern - Programme Support, I

    Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme, Land, Housing and Shelter Section, the intern will:

    • Support the conceptualization of the publication layout, determining specifications for layout, illustrations, colors, size, paper, typesetting, etc.
    • Produce graphics, visuals and maps from different technical sources to standardize the visual appearance.
    • Choose and edit images for chapters out of an existing image database.
    • Assist in mapping production and related cartographic products.
    • Incorporate changes as marked by revisers.
    • Produce camera-ready final publication of the Solutions to Slums: Global Report on Human Settlements 2020 by formatting documents in desktop publishing layout for reproduction in hard copy and electronic dissemination.
    • Perform other related duties as required.
