    Clinical Officer – KMR 8 ( 20 positions)

    Job Summary: 

    Working under the direct supervision of the study coordinator. The primary responsibility of the position is to register study participants, collect data, conduct physical examinations, and collect applicable specimens/sample for testing for influenza and SARS-CoV2, and to ensure the specimen are stored and transported as per the standard operating procedures.

    Essential Qualifications

    1. Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution.
    2. Fluency in English and Kiswahili (written and oral).
    3. Must have evidence of involvement in community health work.
    4. Must be registered by the authorizing board (Clinical officers council of Kenya)
    5. 1 year Experience Providing clinical services in Government or Mission health institution

    Desirable Skills/Abilities

    1. Excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
    2. Experience working with mobile data collection devices (net-books, PDAs, smart-phones).
    3. Excellent social, communication and listening skills, open-minded personality.
    4. Excellent interpersonal relations skills
    5. Ability to work independently as well as an active member of a team.
    6. Experience in providing health education in health facilities
    7. Understanding of the local language is an added advantage (as applicable).

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Work closely within the hospital’s triage area to review the chief complaint of patients presenting
    2. Determine whether any of the patient(s) fit the case definitions for surveillance.
    3. If the case definitions are met, complete the data collection forms, and collect nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal and nasal swabs from the patient.
    4. Ensure that supplies are sufficient, and re-order as necessary.
    5. Work closely with the national surveillance coordinator who will oversee activities at the sentinel sites.
    6. Work closely with the hospital disease surveillance and infection control teams in implementing containment measures
    7. Coordinate implementation of sub-studies as planned by the influenza project(s)
    8. Work closely with the Ministry of Health to sensitize and coordinate IDSR disease surveillance activities at the hospital
    9. Assist in monitoring and evaluation activities to document activities and provide quality assurance to improve program service delivery

    Terms of Employment:

    Contract for 1 year renewable as per KEMRI schemes of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.

    Nurse

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Provide basic triage and offer treatment to study participants.
    2. Collect specimen and perform malaria rapid diagnostic tests on study participants
    3. Maintain strict confidentiality and participants’ privacy.
    4. Maintains adequate amounts of required medical supplies.
    5. Ensure accurate data collection and recording of confidential clinical data.

    9. Perform any other duties as assigned by the study management

    Field Technician (3 Positions)

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Assist in identification of potential participants
    2. Ensure consistent implementation of research protocol over time
    3. Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive research information
    4. Participate in monthly program meetings
    5. Any other duties as assigned

    Vacancy Requirements:

    1. O-Level secondary education with a minimum grade of a D+ (plus)
    2. Good command of English, Kiswahili and Dholuo in written and spoken
    3. Minimum of 1-year experience in public or behavioral health research
    4. Ability to maintain project schedules and work extra hours as needed
    5. Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities independently, in a timely manner with minimal supervision
    6. Attention to details and good work ethics
    7. Must be able to write brief reports and keep records that are clear and legible
    8. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team

    Field Technologist - Site Supervisor (4 Positions)

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Develop in-depth understanding of the study design and goals for successful implementation of the study.
    2. Assist with recruitment of participants to enroll in the study
    3. Consent study participants
    4. Perform intensive adherence counseling as per MoH standards
    5. Perform psychosocial counseling and support aimed at enhancing participant retention
    6. Perform qualitative data collection as assigned by supervisor
    7. Ensure study procedures are well completed for all study participants
    8. Ensure study participants’ privacy and confidentiality is maintained.
    9. Communicate with the Study Cordinator/designee on supply needs and field matters in a timely manner
    10. Attend study meetings and report on progress of work
    11. Work in a team with site clinic staff and represent EAPoC VL study interests at the study site
    12. Be courteous, respectful, proactive, conscientious, punctual, honest and hardworking
    13. Perform any other duty assigned by the supervisor

    Vacancy Requirements:

    1. Diploma in Public Health, Community Development, Social work or Counselling psychology    
    2. Fluent in spoken and written English and    
    3. Experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection in the context of research.    
    4. Experience in working at Ministry of Health (MoH) Comprehensive Care Clinics or other healthcare facility    
    5. Experience working with adolescents and youth    
    6. Experience in qualitative data collection including in-depth interviews and focus group discussions    
    7. Trained in protection of human subjects in research and good documentation practices

    Research Administrator

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Serving as a principal source of information of study status and deliverables
    2. Developing and designing local training and capacity building of project staff in collaboration with the study investigators
    3. Drafting, editing and preparing correspondence, reports and other project related materials
    4. Coordinating a wide range of research procedures and conducting a variety of complex tasks determined by the field and scope of the study
    5. Working as part of a team in contributing to the analysis of results under the direction of the project PI and data team, collating, managing data during data collection periods (monthly) and providing quality assurance/quality control
    6. Coordinating and carrying out designated research tasks and projects, making use of selected methodology and materials, desk research, or other investigative techniques
    7. Support the submission of periodic reports of project status to the PI, regularly suggesting additional tests or modifications in current procedures

    Vacancy Requirements:

    1. Degree in Social Science, Public Health, Community Health and Development or related field from a recognized institution    
    2. Certificate in Good Clinical Practice    
    3. Proficiency in computer applications.    
    4. Good analytical skills and experience of using at least one statistical package

    Data Analyst

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Develop an in-depth understanding of the data management process and the data being managed.
    2. Participate in design of data collection tools and data capture applications.
    3. Design and manage databases and data entry/capture procedures.
    4. Be involved in data downloading and uploading from mobile devices such as Netbooks, Tablets and Smartphones
    5. Participate in developing data analysis plans in consultation with the study investigators and statistician.
    6. Participate in data retrieval, analysis and interpretation
    7. Collate, query and clean data coming in from the field sites including flagging out inconsistencies and/or errors arising from data obtained from the field as part of routine data checks
    8. Perform various data manipulations, analyses and generate reports and tables as requested.
    9. Deal with routine problems arising in the course of data handling.
    10. Perform additional duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

    Vacancy Requirements:

    1. Bachelor degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, computer science or any related field from a recognized training institution    
    2. Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a busy data processing, management and analysis field.    
    3. Excellent knowledge and working experience of at least one statistical package for data manipulation and analysis (STATA, SPSS, SAS, R) and one database management software (SQL server, MS Access).    
    4. Experience working with electronic data collection systems in clinical settings will be an added advantage.    
    5. Ability to develop an in-depth understanding of study goals and its implementation.    
    6. Strong self-motivation and ability to work in a team, with good communication and interpersonal skills.    
    7. Very good interpersonal relations and able to work with little or no supervision.    
    8. Ability to meet strict deadlines
