    Livelihoods Assistant (Dadaab)

    Responsibilities:

    • Implement microenterprise development activities within the camp and host community with emphasis on promoting group development through training, coaching, mentorship, identification of investment needs, opportunities and regular feedback.
    • Recruit and train project beneficiaries on business management, entrepreneurship, market linkages and financial literacy.
    • Prepare weekly, monthly narratives, quarterly, mid-year and annual progress reports.
    • Conduct Training Needs Assessments for groups and individuals, to identify areas of training in business development and savings groups/VSLAs.
    • Document human interest stories/case studies on regular basis.
    • Recruit, train and mentor beneficiaries on Savings Group/VSL methodology and financial literacy with emphasis on promoting self-reliance through investments in IGAs using loans and savings from VSLAs  
    • Identification, recruitment, supervision and mentorship of community incentive workers
    • Participate in periodic camp and host community leaders review, planning meetings and any external meetings as delegated by the supervisor from time to time.
    • Ensure incentive workers adhere to HAP/CHS principles in day to day project implementation, participate in HAP/CHS audits and support MEAL plan implementation.
    • Assist in development of livelihood concept notes
    • Serve as liaison with stakeholders and relevant line ministries at camp and sub-county levels
    • Promote effective collaboration between refugees and host community participating in DRC project activities
    • In the absence of the Livelihoods Officer, represent DRC in inter-agency coordination meetings
    • Monitor and provide objective feedback related to camp-based incentive staff performance, including completing midyear and annual performance evaluations
    • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor

    Experience and technical competencies:  

    • 2 or more years’ experience working with I/NGOs within humanitarian/development contexts 
    • Experience in engaging communities and other relevant stakeholders in the implementation of humanitarian or development program activities is key
    • Some experience and training in enterprise development, financial inclusion (savings groups/financial literacy) and/or agriculture is highly desirable
    • Effective written and oral communication skills
    • Good organizational and work-planning skills 
    • Good decision making through use of previous learnings, listening to others, weighing options, identification of outcomes and considering success chances.
    • Team-player, team-builder and motivator
    • Good understanding of DRC Core Values and Core Humanitarian Standards

    Education: 

    • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Development Studies, Sociology, Community Development, Agriculture or Agribusiness Management.

    Languages: 

    • English – Very good
    • Kiswahili – Good
    • Somali (an added advantage but not required)

    Protection Intern

    Key responsibilities

    The Protection Intern with the focus outlined above will:

    • Support in assessing capacity building needs in the areas of Child Protection and GBV programming;
    • Conduct research and support in the development of new approaches in the areas of Child Protection and GBV programming;
    • Contribute to reporting and proposal development across the countries in the region to ensure minimum standards are applied and adhered to and that AGDI considerations are reflected;
    • Support Country Offices to conduct detailed age, gender and diversity analysis to guide DRC’s operations, institutional culture and programming within its platforms and corresponding sectors 
    • Follow up with Country Offices on the implementation of Regional Age, Gender and Diversity Strategy and country-specific action plans
    • Support in the development and implementation of assessments to determine learning and capacity gaps and design training and capacity building tools for staff on age, gender and diversity
    • Support with the development and roll-out of DRC training material on AGDM and roll out within EAGL RO.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Masters’ degree in relevant social sciences (eg. law, social work, psychology, political science, international relations);

    • Ability to work under pressure and with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams;
    • Excellent inter-personal and negotiation skills;
    • Strong affinity with humanitarian protection principles;
    • Experience in working in fragile and conflict contexts in an asset;
    • Experience working with populations under stress is an asset;
    • Experience in East Africa Region & Great Lakes region will be seen as an advantage
    • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and adaptability

    Languages

    • Fluent in written and spoken English;
    • Good command of French language is an added value 

    Conditions

    Contract:    6 months contract . Salary and other conditions are offered in accordance with DRC’s Terms of Employment for Kenyan Interns.

    JIPS Regional Advisor, EAGL Region

    About the job

    Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

    Delivery of technical support in the field of displacement data and measuring progress towards durable solutions

    • Supports on bringing together government, humanitarian, development actors, and displacement-affected communities in the EAGL region to undertake joint data collection and analysis efforts to improve the evidence base on internal displacement and informing durable solutions for IDPs
    • Provides technical support to requesting partners in the EAGL region (government, national statistical offices, humanitarian and development actors, etc) on measuring progress towards durable solutions, including in applying the Interagency Durable Solutions Library and Guidance by adapting it to their different contexts in the region
    • Provides technical support to requesting partners in the EAGL region (government, national statistical offices, humanitarian and development actors, etc) on data systems and profiling processes in displacement situations. This includes advise during the different phases of a collaborative data process (establishing the collaborative working group; designing the methodology and tools; implementing data collection; processing and analysing the data; joint analysis and validation with partners and communities, reporting, action planning  and dissemination) as well as building capacity of partners.
    • Integrates capacity building effectively into field support delivery, with particular focus on national and local governments
    • Supervises the work of small field teams (field support advisors in the different EAGL countries) to ensure high quality in the delivery of JIPS field support and capacity building in the region      

    Supports knowledge sharing and plans and delivers regional and local peer-to-peer learning and training events

    • Contributes in strengthening the capacity of governments, humanitarian and development actors in the EAGL region, on data systems and collaborative data processes in displacement situations, by organizing knowledge sharing, peer-to-peer and trainings events.
    • Tailors and delivers JIPS training material and learning tools at local, country and regional level, based on specific learning and data needs, with particular focus on national and local government partners
    • Manage the preparation of training, peer-to-peer and dissemination events and workshops to make JIPS products and technical services accessible to relevant actors in the region

    Partnership building and collaboration

    • Initiates and contributes to fostering partnerships in the EAGL region, relevant for JIPS field support and capacity building activities, including with national and local governments, humanitarian and development agencies, donors, civil society and academia
    • Contributes to building JIPS profile with the regional community working to improve data on forced displacement in the region, including through advocacy and adequate representation of JIPS in relevant regional processes and forums
    • Strengthens on-going collaboration with coordination mechanisms, and identifies opportunities to strengthen coordination around data and durable solutions in other contexts
    • Liaises with regional counter parts, including donors, on JIPS’ work in the region
    • Identifies opportunities at the regional level with relevant stakeholders to develop joined tools, documents or other

    Other

    • Actively participates in the regular work of JIPS, including contributions to reporting mechanisms, team meetings, and other workflows
    • Supports advocacy and communications activities as required
    • Supports the Head of Field Support and Capacity Building in other activities as required

    About you

    At JIPS, we are looking for a team player who can work independently and think creatively while also maintaining flexibility to support colleagues and other units when needed. We are looking for a strong communicator who know show to build and maintain relationships and who is comfortable with sharing and transferring knowledge. Moreover, we also expect the following:

    Required

    • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in one of the following: Social Sciences, Humanitarian/Development studies, Information Management, Statistics or a related field;
    • 5-7 years of progressively responsible relevant work experience, of which at least 4 need to be in humanitarian or development field operations;
    • Experience working on forced migration and specifically internal displacement issues in humanitarian and/or development contexts
    • Excellent and proven project management skills, including creating work plans, budgeting, delegation of responsibilities and supervising small teams;
    • Excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills, including the ability to present complex information in a simple and accessible manner;
    • Demonstrated experience in strategic thinking, coordination, and partnership development and management;
    • Solid experience with statistical and social research methods and/or information and knowledge management;
    • Solid experience in capacity building and training of a wide range of actors, including adult learning and training of trainers. Knowledge of e-learning and virtual learning is desirable;
    • Solid knowledge of international humanitarian/development architecture, protection and durable solutions. Previous work experience in inter-agency projects is desirable;
    • Strong reporting and writing skills with proven experience in producing high quality report and learning materials;

    Desirable

    • Practical expertise in community engagement and organizing/ facilitating joint workshops on analysis and/or action planning;
    • Excellent English and French verbal and written skills. Proficiency in Arabic is an advantage
