    Driver ( 2 Positions)

    Role Purpose

    The Driver is responsible for safe driving of vehicles and staff for Save the Children Kenya programme. He/ She should ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of vehicles in compliance with safe driving standards.  Ensure the vehicle is fuelled in time for trips and carry out proper management of fuel supply for the assigned vehicle in accordance with SCI policies and procedures.

    Key Areas of Accountability

    Driving and Maintenance:

    1. Maintain vehicle log and fuel consumption documentation.
    2. Prepare daily vehicle usage report, including trip use, mileage and fuel consumption
    3. Providing weekly usage report of vehicles including total mileage, fuel consumption and expenditure.
    4. Maintain valid drivers’ license.
    5. Organise the transport of supplies directly to SC designated location for use.
    6. Complete the logbook for everyday trips and complete the fuel log sheet for any fuel purchases.
    7. In consultation with the Program Support Officer, coordinate vehicle allocation for staff.
    8. Keep the vehicle documentation up to date
    9. Update the whiteboard once the movement plan is approved.

    Control of Vehicles:

    1. Ensure that all vehicle journeys are authorized in advance by line managers
    2. Ensure that all vehicle journeys are recorded in the logbook at the start and completion of journey.
    3. Ensure that keys and vehicle documents are kept in secure place when the vehicle is not in use
    4. Ensure that all passengers wear seats belts before driving the vehicle
    5. Ensure that  a waiver is filled and approved when carrying non SCI staff
    6. Ensure that the Line Manager is immediately informed of any accidents/incidents and that the accident is reported to the police as appropriate and as soon as possible
    7. Ensure that the vehicle is insured and in the event of an accident, make certain that proper procedures for insurance claims are followed.
    8. Report on all near misses

    Vehicle checks:

    1. Check the vehicle prior to its use every morning, fill the checklist and file it.
    2. Check on taking over a vehicle and ensure that the items listed on the vehicle checklist and in the vehicles tools and materials inventory are present and in functioning order.
    3. Check level of motor oil, water, tyre pressure, battery water and brakes to ensure that all are up to the standards required before any journey commences.
    4. The driver is to check for vehicle defects and damage to the vehicle and ensure that he reports them to his line manager promptly.
    5. Report and supervise all maintenance and repair needs of assigned vehicle.
    6. Check communication equipment and maintains communication while in the field with base (SSFP)

    Cleanliness and visibility:

    The driver is responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean on the outside and inside at all times. The driver is also to keep the vehicle tidy and ensure that all dirt is removed from the vehicle after a journey.
    He/She is to ensure SC visibility protocols are adhered to at all times.

    Other

    1. Follow and abide by traffic rules, regulations, driver safety manual and any other instructions given by supervisor
    2. Maintain all vehicle safety equipment, as per vehicle safety kit, in liaison with the logistics officer- including first aid kit, communication equipment and fire extinguisher
    3. Work after duty hours or holidays/weekends as and when required and in prior notice from the line manager
    4. Escalate complaints and feedback of a serious nature to program support officer and field office child safeguarding focal point.
    5. Perform any other duty as reques
    6. s:ted by authorised persons.

    4. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in an insecure environment is critical
    5. Some practical experience of user vehicle maintenance.
    6. Those with defensive driving skills, first aid training will have an added advantage.
    7. Recommended minimum of 3-5 years’ experience of professional driving experience in an NGO or similar environment, including significant field operations experience running both emergency and development programs
    8. Fluency in written and spoken English. Similar skills in Kiswahili and the local language is an added advantage
    9. Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work with incoming teams in the event of major emergencies

    Lead, International Programmes Operating Models

    ROLE PURPOSE:

    The role will be responsible for leading the design of additional operating models that enable the implementation of Save the Children 2030 ambition. The postholder will work with Country, Regional Offices and Centre teams to identify and prioritize critical operating model gaps and will then lead the design of the components of the new models (governance, accountabilities, policies, systems etc.), using pilots when possible. They will also liaise with critical global projects (Localisation, National Offices, SCUSI etc.) and other parts of SCA to understand their needs and interdependencies. An astute thinker, the post-holder will also be encouraged to analyse and test emerging practices and models that could be taken to scale.

    Where applicable, the role will lead the development and pilot of a Change and Deployment Plan in coordination with other functional areas and lead or support any implementation process for the new models.

    The role will also lead on the improvement and updating of relevant tools, including the review and revision of the Country Office Operating Model (COOM) Toolkits and the Centre-Region Operating Model (CROM) with the inclusion of updated guidance on the new operating models developed. COOM provides Country Office Senior Management Teams with the tools they need to ensure they have a fit for purpose structure and effective ways of working in order to deliver programs for children. The Centre-Region Operating Model (CROM) is a framework that provides clarity on the core accountabilities that Country Offices, Regional Offices and the Centre need to achieve

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    Essential :

    1. Senior level leadership and management experience in a large and complex international NGO or organization, ideally in a country office setting across a range of models and ways of working
    2. Experience defining and designing operating models, preferably in the non-for profit sector
    3. Strong Project Management and Change Management experience, including experience of leading cross-functional project teams to collectively deliver project outcomes

    KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

    Lead on Design of new Operating Models for Country Offices

    1. Work with end users (Region, Country Offices and Members) to identify and prioritise critical business and operating model gaps
    2. Identify interdependencies and needs from Global Strategic Initiatives such as Localisation/Shifting Power to Local Communities, Flexible Operating Model etc.
    3. Solicit information on promising models that are shown to achieve optimal results against programmatic and operational metrics – including assessment and work-planning on how they might be taken to scale.
    4. Develop methodologies and pathways for the design planning of new models.
    5. Support the Country and Regional Offices to pilot different models
    6. Generate, socialize and utilize learning from pilots
    7. Lead on a cost-of-doing business analysis to drive improvements on resources allocations 
    8. Develop, together with the membership and organisational development lead, a catalogue of options for Country Offices to support adaptation of business models to local contexts and needs to maximize impact for children
    9. Support the update of the Geopresence Decision making framework, which outlines the process and decision gates for changing business models.
    10. Report on progress, ensuring any dependencies and risks are identified and addressed
    11. Contribute to the broader discussion on the organisational vision and catalogue of models to enable Save the Children to realize the Ambition 2030.
    12. Participate in a unit overseeing, documenting and extracting learning from transition processes.

    Lead the updates of the Country Office Operating Model (COOM) and the Centre-Region Operating Model (CROOM)

    1. Set the overall direction for the COOM updates. 
    2. Lead the detailed project planning and monitor progress, course correcting as required
    3. Work with end users, particularly Field and CO staff to identify the gaps and priority areas of improvement for COOM
    4. Work with Centre functions to ensure that functional areas are updated and maintained, are easy to understand, and that best practice tools and examples are available to end users (including the resolving of any perceived incompatibilities or conflicts)
    5. Develop guidance and best practice for new models and incorporate it in the Country Office Operating Model guidance (COOM)
    6. Work with other entities of SC (e.g. National Offices) to ensure that any guidance on these models is updated and included in COOM 
    7. Develop a communication plan for the COOM updates 
    8. Develop and roll-out an online COOM e-learning induction package that is accessible to end users
    9. Support the review and update the Centre-Region Operating Model (CROOM)

    Support International Programme Operations to maintain and continuously improve operational tools

    1. Attend team meetings and cross-functional forums
    2. Review the Country Sustainability & Resilience guidance for Country Offices 
    3. Carry out any other duties either in addition to or instead of those outlined above which may reasonably be required from time to time.

    Research and Evidence Advisor, Child Poverty and Child Rights Governance

    ROLE PURPOSE:

    The Research & Evidence Advisor is responsible for leading the research and monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) efforts of Save the Children’s child rights governance and poverty work - measuring and demonstrating the impact of our thematic work in these areas. The Advisor is responsible for monitoring results and progress related to these areas, monitoring and sharing results of tracer indicators and developing and operationalizing the relevant thematic components of the Global Results Framework in support of our Ambition 2030.

    The role holder is also responsible for identifying, defining and accompanying robust research, evidence and learning agendas for common approaches that clearly demonstrate evidence-based practice, bring evidence and data from the country and regional levels up and contribute to bridging the global evidence gap both internally in Save the Children and externally in the wider sector.

    In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    Essential

    1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of technical and program issues in development and humanitarian contexts
    2. Demonstrated knowledge in the design and implementation of global monitoring and evaluation systems. Substantial experience of working in international development in designing, implementing and evaluating programs.

    1. Lead development of the components of the Global Results Framework, including defining metrics to measure our thematic ambitions and contributions to the child rights governance and child poverty 
    2. Support the development of clearly articulated, measurable milestones and targets for the strategic goals as part of country strategic planning
    3. Support thematic indicator inclusion and quality checking of thematic indicators in PPM Prime
    4. Support roll-out of the Global Results Framework and ensure defined thematic indicators are tracked at the country and global levels
    5. Lead thematic contributions to miscellaneous GRF-related initiatives/activities, e.g. reach methodology revision, country strategic planning, etc.

    Evaluation, Research and Learning

    1. Support implementation of a Research, Evidence and Learning (REL) agenda of priority questions and topics for Child Poverty and Child Rights Governance which contributes to both the Global REL Agenda, and programmatic approach agendas. 
    2. Develop a pipeline of member/country office research items and evaluative activities planned for Q3-4 of 2021, support and analyse country office reviews and evaluations and produce learning papers and publications. Disseminate quality research and evidence to teams.
    3. Contribute to building research and analytic capacity across the organization in the areas of research design and ethics, data collection, data analysis and communication of results

    Support Common Approaches Development and Uptake

    1. Contribute to the learning programs for “refreshed” common approaches
    2. Oversee data collection efforts for annual mapping of endorsed common approaches and baseline data collection for new common approaches to provide data for defining future ambitions and monitoring progress 
    3. Engage with thematic leads to facilitate and support generation of evidence and learning from common approaches

    Research and Evidence Advisor, Child Poverty and Climate Change

    ROLE PURPOSE:

    The Research & Evidence Advisor is responsible for leading the research and monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (REALM) efforts of Save the Children’s child poverty and climate change work. The Advisor is responsible for measuring the performance and impact of our thematic work in this area. The role holder is also responsible for identifying, defining and accompanying robust research, evidence and learning agendas for common approaches that clearly demonstrate evidence-based practice, bring evidence and data from the country and regional levels up and contribute to bridging the global evidence gap both internally in Save the Children and externally in the wider sector. They will work to ensure that research and evidence is used in support of relevant strategic goals.

    In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    Essential

    1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of technical and program issues in development and humanitarian contexts, preferably applied to the Child Poverty and Climate Change thematic areas (e.g. child sensitive social protection, cash and voucher assistance, food security and livelihoods programming, adolescent skills development, disaster risk reduction, climate change mitigation and adaptation)
    2. Curiosity and an orientation towards using data and evidence to drive continuous improvement
    3. Demonstrated knowledge in the design and implementation of global monitoring and evaluation systems.
    4. Proven ability to develop and apply monitoring and evaluation plans to determine program results and monitor impact within an international organization
