    Humanitarian Advocacy Adviser

    ROLE PURPOSE: 

    Humanitarian response represents roughly half of Save the Children International’s global portfolio. Typically Save responds to circa 100 global humanitarian crises each year. Building our humanitarian affairs, influencing and policy capability is at the core of our strategy to achieve immediate and lasting change for the most deprived children.

    This role will deploy to humanitarian response teams to develop and implement humanitarian advocacy strategies working in close coordination with Advocacy, Communications and Media team in the Country Office, Regional Office and the Humanitarian Advocacy Working Group. This role is a member of the Humanitarian Surge Team and will deploy to country offices for approximately 60% of time. The remaining 40% of time will be allocated to research, policy development and contribution to capacity strengthening initiatives to support the continuous improvement of humanitarian advocacy.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    Essential

    • Higher level education degree, Masters or above, in a relevant field (e.g., International Development, International Relations, Peace building, or Security Studies)
    • Minimum 5 years experience in developing and implementing humanitarian advocacy strategies and knowledge of children’s rights, protection and humanitarian affairs.
    • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children
    • Proven experience of working effectively in coalitions/networks of civil society organisations.
    • Willingness to travel at very short notice, including to high-risk locations for deployment as a member of the Global Expertise Humanitarian Surge Platform.
    • Excellent research, analytical and written communication skills
    • Proven ability to manage multiple and competing demands, work to tight deadlines and brief senior staff
    • Good project management skills related to organisational development projects and international, cross-functional teams with a proven history of delivering results
    • Exposure to and understanding of humanitarian field realities and an ability to work in demanding and fast-moving contexts
    • Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse setting
    • Understanding of and commitment to Save the Children’s mission, vision, values and ways of working

    Desirable

    • Previous experience of deployment in humanitarian response teams; developing and implementing advocacy strategies
    • Exposure to and understanding of humanitarian field realities and an ability to work in demanding and fast-moving contexts
    • Experience of developing training and capacity strengthening initiatives
    • Fluency in French, Arabic and/or Spanish

    Program Manager, Humanitarian Programs

    ROLE PURPOSE: 

    This new role is an exciting opportunity for an engaging leader who will provide leadership and support to regional teams and response teams to ensure program quality. The post holder will bring together a community of practice of colleagues across the globe who engage in program quality. Through leadership of this group, the post holder will drive best practices, shared learning and innovation to ensure our response programs are delivering impact at scale and with quality.

    Specifically, the post holder will have two key areas of accountability

    • Regularly update and rollout policies, procedures and guidance to ensure response teams have the tools they need to deliver on program quality objectives
    • Provide hands on support and capacity strengthening for response teams and surge colleagues to ensureintegrated, holistic, transformative programming.

    In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and may be deployed to support responses.

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    Essential

    • Senior leadershipexperience working in Save the Children with known ability to work across a network of international stakeholders to advance humanitarian programming
    • Minimum of 7 years experience working directly in humanitarian responses including in complex contexts to design, implement and evaluate programs
    • Minimum of 4 years management experience driving results and impact, while fostering a supportive and positive work environment
    • Experience in creating and managing high-performing teams including building shared objectives, quality control, evaluation, motivation, performance and professional development
    • Demonstrated experience in strategy development and strong strategic thinking skills, as well as ability to mobilize resources to drive strategy implementation
    • Thorough knowledge and track record of influencing public and programme policy and advocacy agendas to promote principled humanitarian response.
    • Knowledge of policy, research and evidence-based methodologies with regards to <insert technical area> programming, and other relevant child focused programming.
    • Proven experience delivering results and outputs with evidence of adapting based on context and needs analysis.
    • Energy and drive to create change in a large complex organisation, while constantly adapting approaches and applying enterprise-driven thinking
    • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching – ability to work with all levels from CEO to junior staff and across all functions.
    • Commitment to building and supporting a diverse and inclusive technical team.
    • Fluent spoken and written English.

    Project Manager – CAPP Member

    ROLE PURPOSE: 

    Save the Children is undergoing significant transformation across a number of core business procedures, systems, and structures, through the implementation of a number of organisational change projects.

    One programme is CAPP (Coding, Agresso, PPM PRIME) which has the following objectives:

    • Deploys a new global financial data model (Coding) across the organisation
    • Introduces a new finance system (Agresso) to our Member offices
    • Introduces a new project management methodology (PMM) to improve the quality of our programming for children
    • Deliver a technology solution (PRIME) that enables the new project management methodology and helps us capture MEAL data for our programmes
    • Ensures that our award management system (AMS) is used to manage all of our donor awards

    Deploying each of these solutions has a specific benefit of improving the quality and efficiency of financial and project management across Save the Children. The larger aim of the programme is also to achieve further standardisation of our systems and processes, to become a more efficient and effective organisation and focus more of our time and effort on better outcomes for children.

    The project delivers this solution across Save the Children International (80+ offices) and the Save the Children Membership (20+ offices). This role will be focused on working with Save the Children Members.

    We have deployed the full solution to 4 of our Members offices now (Sweden, Denmark, India and Netherlands) and have taken lessons learned from these deployment to create a standardised plan for the roll-out of these solutions in Members. We are now embarking on the second round of Member offices, which includes working with our offices in the US, Spain, Canada and further in the future Norway, Australia and UK.

    In order to be able to execute the next round of deployments in an efficient and standardised manner, we are now recruiting and additional senior project manager into the team to oversee the deployment to one or multiple Member offices. The senior project manager will work with the Comms and Change Manager to manage the relationship with the Member offices and work with an international team of IT staff and subject matter experts to drive the deployment forward.

    The Senior Project Manager sits within the Project and Change Management team that is part of the Transformation Delivery Department within Save the Children International. This role is accountable for the successful deployment of the CAPP solution in their allocated Member office(s).
