    Education

    • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Successful passing of the Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) in English at the United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ), Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) may be accepted in lieu of the GGST.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in programme or project administration, technical cooperation or related area is required.
    • Work Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP) e.g., UMOJA is required.
    • Experience within the United Nations system or similar international organization is desirable.
    • One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required and knowledge of French is desirable.

    Gender and Environment Expert

    Specific Duties Will Include

    The GCI secretariat is looking for a consultant to lead the research, drafting, development and finalization of a study on green customs and gender.

    • Preparing a research plan, methodology and outline/structure for the envisaged publication, including information about the data collection tools and the analytical approach;
    • Conducting a comprehensive desk review of primary resources and related bibliography in relation to gender and customs;
    • Preparing a questionnaire for the collection of gender-related qualitative and quantitative data relating to the GCI covered agreements and the gender dimensions of the trade of environmental commodities regulated under those agreements; the gender policies and procedures of the GCI partners; and gender aspects of selected customs and border control administration and identify target groups for the dissemination of the questionnaires;
    • Carrying out interviews, as needed, with relevant stakeholders such as government officials, customs and border enforcement institutes and officers, the World Customs Organization, GCI partners, civil society organization, community groups and women organizations;
    • Analyzing collected data, drafting the study and incorporating feedback received from UNEP and relevant stakeholders;
    • Presenting the publication’s findings and recommendations in awareness raising and capacity-building events as well as in communication products.

    Qualifications/special Skills

    • Advanced university degree in social sciences, environmental studies, gender studies, sustainable development or related fields.
    • Familiarity with gender issues in general and practical experience in collection of gender-disaggregated data;
    • At least seven years of experience in gender analysis, gender discrimination or equality, preferably within the context of environmental protection or sustainable development.

    Special Knowledge & Skills

    • Knowledge of the UN system
    • Certification in data analytics, business analytics or data science programmes.
    • A combination of excellent problem solving communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multitasking environment.

    IAP Food Security Science-Policy Interface Specialist

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Incumbent Will Work Under The Direct Supervision Of The Regional Sub - Programme Coordinator For Environment Under Review Who Is The Designated Project Coordinator

The post is located in the UNEP Africa office.

    • Facilitate communications and linkages at regional and national levels and communication with FAO staff engaged in the C1 of the IAP regional Hub project, as well as with the IAP PCU and the IAP-Food Security Coordinator.
    • Provide technical input to the preparation of sub-component 1.2 regional workshops in collaboration with FAO on the training materials and publication;
    • Reassess and synthesize the current child projects needs with regards to Scientific/Technical support from SPI / knowledge in a participatory process;
    • Develop and deliver SPI reports related to sub-component 1.2 to the PCU;
    • Project closure:
    • Review the project design report to ensure full completion and proper handover.
    • Assess the project's performance in terms of cost, schedule, and quality.
    • Obtain acceptance of the project deliverables.
    • Document lessons learned during implementation.
    • Formalize closure by obtaining sign-off from the project sponsor and PCU
    • Undertake any other duties, within her/his area of competence, as assigned by the IAP lead agency in collaboration with the Project Coordinator.

    Qualifications/special Skills

    • Advanced university degree (Master's degree) in Environmental Assessments; Conservation, Governance, sustainable development and international relations or related fields is required.
    • A minimum of 5 years of working experience is required in the field of project management, environmental science, assessment and related research, development, biodiversity related research, project implementation and monitoring, review and assessment of project reports, provision of guidance, and report writing is required.
    • Experience with the United Nations, International Organizations, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is required. Ability to work with minimum supervision in a team environment is desirable.

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English is required. Working knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
