    Head of Risk & Compliance

    Job Summary

    Main Purpose (Why does the job exist) 1. To ensure the country grows its operations in compliance with financial, banking statutory and regulatory requirements in line with risk appetite and policies for the reasonable assumption of manageable risk. 2. To drive the execution of credit risk strategies that optimize the subsidiary’s credit portfolios from a reward versus risk perspective while balancing capital constraints and market sensitivity to levels of non-performing debt

    Job Details

    • Critical Deliverables /Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities
    • Develop and ensure efficient implementation and compliance with Letshego’s policies, procedures relating to credit risk management end to end.
    • Develops and implements country-wide risk management function, establishing unambiguously defined risk appetite 
    • Establishes a country risk management framework consisting of adequate controls, compliance policies, processes and methods to assess overall and business unit risk profiles.
    • Implements and maintains a sound enterprise-wide integrated risk management governance framework. 
    • Oversees the country's operational, credit, market/business, including compliance to the risk management framework.
    • Measures country risk and provides analytical support to business lines in risk measurement, modelling, and reporting.
    • Oversees and manages Anti-Money Laundering  Financing control activity in all relevant business areas to establish a reasonable threshold level of control consistency
    • Identifies known and emerging risks, including measuring, monitoring and reporting on the risk profile.
    • Facilitates the maintenance of country risk corporate policies, including credit, operational risk, compliance, security and portfolio valuation, information security, physical security, business continuity planning, and limit breaches. 
    • Provide independent and objective risk analyses in conjunction with critical strategic and operational decisions.
    •  Ensures line managers take direct ownership of critical risks. 
    • Implement the strategies and policies approved by the Board, develop processes that adequately identify, measure, monitor and control Risks faced by the institution.

    Position Requirements

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, risk management, business administration or legal
    • Master’s Degree would be an added advantage

     Experience 

    • At least 10 years of experience across risk management, policies and regulations in financial/banking sector 5 years in senior management role
    • Demonstrated capacity to translate commercial strategies into risk profiles and risk assessments
    • Demonstrated ability to build strong network with regulatory bodies and government authorities
    • CertificationsInternational certifications in Risk management, such as CIRM, CRCM, ICM, or equivalent

     Knowledge

    • Strong understanding of financial/,banking sector regulations market trends and developments
    • Strong understanding of Enterprise Risk and strategic implications on business i.e. Credit, Operational, Liquidity, Market, 
    • Strong knowledge on portfolio risk management techniques, (e.g. loan books, deposit quality, credit lines)
    • Strong understanding of operational risk, (e.g. transformation risk assessment, HC / IT risks identification)
    • Proven experience in implementing and managing Enterprise Risk Management strategy and governance, risk and compliance activities 
    • Practical knowledge of consumer and commercial lending origination, portfolio management strategies, pension plan investments and capital markets including but not limited to money markets, securitization, fixed income and interest rate markets and associated risks 
    • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, expectations and business impacts.

     Skills

    • Excellent leadership skills in building, developing and managing a strong team
    • Ability to delegate to achieve right level of involvement on day-to-day decisions
    • Excellent problem solving skills (i.e. problem definition & structuring, analysis definition, insight generation & recommendation generation)
    • Excellent communication skills 
    • Ability to supervise and manage multiple projects at the same time
    • Ability to work with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams

    Head of Finance

    Job Summary

    Main Purpose (Why does the job exist) To manage, direct and implement the country financial strategies, financial accounting and management functions, financial reporting, forecasting, budgetary controls and general economic health for the subsidiary, managing financial sustainability, driving financial performance & maximising return on investment

    Job Details

    Critical Deliverables /Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities

    • Oversees long-term budgetary planning, forecasting, and cost management in alignment with Group's and Country's strategic plan and provides advice on business activities' financial implications.
    •  Implements the Group financial strategies into an effective country business plan and ensures maximum alignment between organisational objectives and operations' activities. 
    • Supports the local Board and Country leaderships in developing projects for long term diversification of revenue streams.
    • Collaborates with Legal, Risk and Compliance in managing risk framework, including identification and monitoring. 
    • Develops and manages relationships with all stakeholders on financial matters, including stock exchanges, commercial banks, shareholders, stockbrokers, market analysts, fund managers, industry service providers, Central Banks, external auditors, attorneys, and regulators.
    • Prepares and recommends to the local Board of Directors interim and year-end published financial results, including the content and quality of Management accounts, economic forecasts and financial budgets and overall financial reporting of performance and trends 
    • Responsible for the country cash flow management, cash flow planning, identification, and make recommendations where necessary. 
    • Manages the treasury function and management of forex risks and maturity mismatch risks
    • Ensures compliance with the local regulators
    • Partners with the local Board of Directors and Country Senior Management on all operational, financial and strategic issues as they arise and provide strategic recommendations. 
    • Ensures adherence to procurement policies and procedures.
    • Implement the strategies and policies approved by the Board, develop processes that adequately identify, measure, monitor and control Risks faced by the institution.

    Position Requirements

    Education

    • Professional qualification – ACCA/CIMA/ CPA-K
    • Master’s in Business Administration would be an added advantage

    Experience  

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a finance function within the financial services industry
    • At least 5 years in a senior management role
    • Experience in financial, management reporting and company accounts
    • CertificationsMembership of CIMA/ACCA/CFA/ICPAK

    Knowledge

    • Knowledge of fintech, mobile micro solutions such as e-wallet, mobile savings, commercial/retail/transactional banking operations and solutions 
    • Enterprise and Risk Management (ERM) and Corbit framework
    • Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG), social impact and sustainability framework
    • Financial Inclusion   
    • Enterprise Resource Planning MIA & Accounting systems for day to day microfinance operations
    • Treasury, AML and ALCO principles
    • In depth knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices
    • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods

     Skills

    • Excellent leadership skills in building, developing and managing a strong team
    • Exceptional strategic thinking capabilities backed by strong analytical capabilities. 
    • Excellent problem solving skills (i.e. problem definition & structuring, analysis definition, insight generation & recommendation generation)
    • Excellent communication skills especially with top management and other stakeholders
    • Ability to supervise and manage multiple projects at the same time
    • Ability to work with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams 
    • Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial and accounting management software 
    • An analytical mind, comfortable with numbers
