    Communications Specialist

    Summary of Primary Duties

    The Communications Specialist will work with the Communications and Marketing Manager in planning, designing and carrying out project communication activities. S/he will be responsible for managing the projects presence in social media and for the creation of content necessary to grow the projects engagement within the sector. S/he will also focus on the development of products for public access and the project’s online platforms including the KIWASH website, Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr.

    Communications Specialist Job Duties

    • Program writing and graphics design
    • Solicit for information for success stories from technical team members and sub implementing partners. Draft and/or edit success stories with appropriate photographs for sharing with USAID and posting on KIWASH website.
    • Draft publicity materials including activity profiles and project factsheet, success stories, case studies, and articles for KIWASH quarterly newsletter, quarterly and annual progress reports.
    • Establish photo library using Flickr, prepare updated project presentations, site visit kits and press kits.
    • Provide design and layout support for all publications and publicity materials.

    Social media management

    • Author brief social media postings with corresponding links and source appropriate images for the postings in coordination with technical teams and implementing partners. Schedule and post social media content as per the content calendar and obtain approvals for content prior to publishing. Monitor and responds to followers’ feedback and inquiries in accordance to established policy.
    • Ensure brand compliance with USAID Branding and Marking Guidelines across all social media assets deployed.
    • Gather, analyze and report social media performance data and provide insights and actionable recommendations for improving performance over time. KPIs include: reach, engagement and sentiment.
    • Review the daily press for WASH related topics and news, and share with team based on relevance
    • Help establish and maintain a database of project partners by soliciting input from the KIWASH team and key partners, stakeholder meetings and forums.
    • Assist with coordination of field events, launches, site visits etc. ensuring USAID input and clearance is received in a timely manner.
    • Help prepare and update a standard information package on the KIWASH project counties for distribution to the public and the media.

    Qualifications for the Communications Specialist Job

    • A degree in the field of communications, marketing, international relations or a related area is desirable.
    • At least three years of relevant work experience in the field of communications, social media management, preferably in the development sector. Experience with a USAID project is an added advantage.
    • Knowledge of MS Office software, web design, HTML and other media software packages (i.e. InDesign, Photoshop and video editing software) and photography is required.
    • Understanding of the fundamentals of social media content sourcing and experience using Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr for campaigns and organizational outreach.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent inter-personal skills to ensure effective team relations. Strong organizational skills, analytical abilities and initiative to prioritize and complete tasks and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.

    Grants Manager

    Summary of Primary Duties

    The Grants Manager will oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of the KIWASH recoverable grants funds. S/He will assist in designing activities that align with KIWASH grants funding mechanism with the profit making companies, Water Service Providers, Small and Medium size business and similar entities.

    Grants Manager Job Essential Duties

    • Lead in the recoverable grants cycle management in compliance with the KIWASH grants manual and grants-related sections of the project’s Field Operations Manual.
    • Provide day‐to‐day management of the KIWASH recoverable grants program, including awards management, reporting, outreach to potential grantees, and compliance.
    • Work with KIWASH embedded teams and technical specialists to devise and lead strategies to ensure broad participation in the KIWASH grants program.
    • Analyze and evaluate recoverable grant applications, proposals, and procurement awards.
    • Ensure post‐award management in accordance with relevant regulations, including reporting and auditing in accordance with USAID and DAI policies and procedures.
    • Review and approve grant-related expenses
    • Provide procedural and policy guidance to program staff and grantees to ensure adherence to management policies and achievement of objectives.
    • Routinely monitor grantees to ensure that funds allocated are used for specified purposes.
    • Design and lead capacity building training for local organizations to ensure their proposals meet USAID regulations.
    • Providing training, guidance and direction to project staff working on grants and activities
    • Conduct periodic reviews of grants documentation to ensure requirements are met.
    • Ensures adequate backup documentation is uploaded to relevant system according to set deadlines
    • Trains, supervises, and mentors Grants and Activities Officers.

    Qualifications for the Grants Manager Job

    • A Masters’ degree in a relevant field.
    • 8+ years of professional experience and progressive responsibility in grants or project management
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience managing grants on USAID-funded projects
    • Experience in the Micro-finance sector is an added advantage
    • Demonstrated experience with various grant mechanisms, including grants‐under‐contract, fixed obligation, and in‐kind grants with repayments.
    • Experience supervising staff
    • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
    • Demonstrated report writing skills in English is required.
    • An articulate individual who possesses excellent communications and personnel management skills and who can relate to people at all levels of an organization
    • An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and appropriate professional image
    • An extremely well organized and self-directed individual with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus
    • Fluency in English is required

    Monitoring and Evaluation Manager

    Summary of Primary Duties

    The M&E Manager will design and manage systems for data collection, monitoring and evaluation, and knowledge management. S/he will ensure that the project team generates data and learns from project activities on an ongoing basis to identify the highest return opportunities, ensure effective knowledge management, inform the project’s adaptive management approach, and improve program accountability and effectiveness.

    Duties for the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager Job

    • Develop and roll-out the KIWASH knowledge management strategy, including development and dissemination of materials;
    • Oversee development of the KIWASH Performance Management Plan (PMP) and M&E system.
    • Ensure data quality through regular quality control reviews;
    • Design and lead rigorous baseline, specialized assessments of technical activities to determine efficacy of proposed interventions and measure KIWASH impact;
    • Provide day-to-day oversight to the M&E team;
    • Seek ways to streamline the process and increase efficiency in gathering and using performance information.
    • Support M&E and technical teams to develop activity indicators and targets and gather quantitative and qualitative data related to those indicators and targets;
    • Work with technical teams to develop appropriate M&E plans for each activity during implementation.
    • Conduct participatory M&E of technical field activities to measure quantitative as well as qualitative impact;
    • Lead M&E and performance management reporting.
    • The M&E Manager will supervise the M&E Specialists.

    Monitoring and Evaluation Manager Job Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in statistics, development field, social science, economics, or relevant discipline.Prior Work Experience: Minimum of eight (8)years of progressively responsible professional experience in a performance monitoring and/or evaluation role with an international development organization especially in the design and/or management of USAID or donor-funded programs;
    • Demonstrated experience participating in baseline assessments, specialized studies, and impact evaluations for complex development programs;
    • Familiarity with developing M&E indicators and plans;
    • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

    Accountant

    Role Objective

    The Accountant will, in coordination with the other members of the finance and accounting team, manage all financial transactions related to the East Africa TIH Project. The Accountant will ensure that all expenditures are properly recorded and that the outlined financial policies and procedures are implemented and followed.

    Responsibilities for the Accountant Job

    • Process all cash transactions and wire transfer payments.
    • Manage all banking activities including withdrawals, deposits, and preparation of all bank payments and checks.
    • Record all financial transactions in Field Accounting System.
    • Ensure the security of all project funds.
    • Receive and verify suppliers’ and consultants’ invoices along with justification documents
    • Ensure that project vendors are paid on time.
    • Track VAT exemptions and reimbursements.
    • Prepare bank reconciliations.
    • Prepare requests for funds transfers in a timely manner per DAI procedures and requirements.
    • Maintain an accurate filing of payment vouchers and other financial documents.
    • Upload the Extracts based on DAI’s schedule.
    • Scan and upload the monthly financial documentation to DAI BOX.
    • Work as complete back up for the other project accountants when needed.

    Salary Calculation and Disbursal

    • Ensure that the employee profiles in Field Accounting system are up to date.
    • Ensure that salary is disbursed, payroll is recorded in the accounting system, and individual paystubs are distributed to all employees on schedule.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
    • Travel
    • Work with the Senior Finance Manager to disburse travel advance amounts based on TIH’s travel advance policy.
    • Calculate and disburse travel advances after approval.
    • Audit travel vouchers and reconcile travel advances.

    Accountant Job Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or a related field from a recognized University.
    • Accounting professional certificate (CPA or ACCA).
    • At least 4 years of work experience in accounting or financial management, preferably for a USAID or other international donor-funded project.
    • Knowledge of and experience with USAID contractor policies and USAID regulations preferred.
    • Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Keenness to detail
    • The Accountant will have no supervisory responsibilities.

    Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist Job Responsibilities

    • S/He will assist the Senior M&E Manager to undertake the following tasks:
    • S/he will support the Senior M&E Manager to Develop and roll-out the KIWASH knowledge management strategy, including development and dissemination of materials;
    • Assist in the development of the KIWASH Activity Monitoring and Evaluation Plan (AMEP) and M&E system;
    • Ensure high data quality through regular quality control reviews;
    • Establish strategies to streamline the M&E process and increase efficiency in gathering and using performance information; and help implement the same;
    • Support technical teams to develop activity indicators and targets and gather quantitative and qualitative data related to those indicators and targets;
    • Work with technical teams to develop appropriate M&E plans for each activity during implementation;
    • Conduct participatory M&E of field activities to measure quantitative as well as qualitative impacts;
    • Provide input into the design, implementation and dissemination of evaluations, special studies and assessments;
    • Support the program units with data analysis, reporting and presentation for the quarterly and annual reports;
    • Conduct M&E training to partner institutions such as subcontractor partners, government institutions, WSPs, etc.
    • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
