Job context
The Program Development Manager (PDM) of Women’s Empowerment (WE) and Sexual Rights and Diversity (SRD) is Hivos East Africa’s Regional Head of the WE and SRD team and a member of Hivos’ global Open team. S/he identifies and builds a network of key stakeholders from government, international organizations, civil society and the private sector, and works with them to co-create solutions.
S/he builds donor relationships and identifies funding opportunities. A successful incumbent of the role will build a diverse portfolio of innovative, high-quality projects with strong stakeholder buy-in; achieve Hivos East Africa’s funding targets and contributes towards Hivos’ sustainability; and contribute to the development of Hivos’s reputation as a thought and innovation leader on the theme of WE and SRD.
The incumbent will also organize internal processes for idea co-creation within the WE and SRD team, as well as in collaboration with the teams of other Hivos themes. The position is responsible for translating these ideas into viable solutions, and securing funding opportunities for the resulting projects. This position also oversees/ coordinates the individual projects under WE and SRD to ensure relevance with Hivos’ overall Open Society goals.

Team Size: 5-8 in Kenya, Uganda & Tanzania
The Program Development Manager oversees the coordination and administration of all aspects of the Women’s Empowerment and Sexual Rights & Diversity theme including planning, resourcing, organizing, staffing, leading, and overseeing program activities. The incumbent will also serve as part of the Hivos East Africa’s Management Team.

Working Conditions
The Program Development Manager will be based in the Kenya office, but with frequent and regular travel to the Uganda and Tanzania offices. The Program Development Manager is expected to travel frequently to remote parts of rural Africa, and internationally to represent Hivos East Africa as needed.
