Boreka Group is a locally owned, woman led social enterprise using technology to work with communities to accelerate adoption of nature based solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts and improve livelihoods. Our goal is to develop sustainable carbon sinks focusing on biodiversity through agroforestry models with community groups. We believe that collective action by communities is key to catalysing climate action for social & environmental impact. These communities in Arid and Semi Arid Lands own medium & large chunks of land that can be turned into agroforestry models by making use of soil species matching technologies to plant the right species adapted to these climates and making use of mobile technology to support trainings on silvicultural practices by extension services. Boreka aims to provide a ready international market for the trees and woodlots established by these farmer groups through carbon credits trading & wood products value addition. This will create for them full incomes for their hard work and sweat as well as compensate for the opportunity cost for land and labour for the biological assets. Our vision is to achieve the following impact 1. 5 million tonnes of CO2 sequestered per annum 2. 500 million trees planted 3. 10 million farmers onboarded 4.100 million dollars in revenue 5. 20 counties in Kenya 6. 10 countries in Africa Boreka intends to scale to reach millions of farmers and unlock carbon finance opportunities aligned with changing trends and demands in the global climate change space. Boreka partners with major public and private institutions including governments and international development organisations to accelerate and scale this transformative agenda.
