    Assistant Director - Meteorological Service - 3 Posts

    Duties and Responsibilities 
    Duties and responsibilities at this will include:-

    • Coordinating meteorological services in the counties
    • Verifying and validating the accuracy and timeliness of the Meteorological data, charts analysis and forecast products; 
    • Providing Meteorological information database to users; 
    • Interpreting remotely sensed data; 
    • Preparing tailor made weather forecast for various applications 
    • Preparing meteorological  advisories, alerts warnings for various sectors; 
    • Down scaling and disseminating meteorological information
    • Developing and reviewing meteorological curricula
    • Preparing serve weather products for application in various sector;
    • Marketing and branding of meteorological products
    • Analyzing air quality data
    • Developing climate change scenarios; collecting and collating data for publication
    • Generating and updating weekly, monthly and seasonal weather and climate bulletins;
    • Coordinating meteorological operation at the airports
    • Carrying out research in meteorology and related sciences.
    • Providing training and capacity building on meteorology and related sciences 
    • Conducting public education and outreach programmes

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-

    • Served as Principal Meteorologist  CSG ‘8’ or its equivalent from the Public Service for a minimum period of three (3) years;
    • A Bachelors Degree in Meteorology or its equivalent qualification from a recognized university in Kenya;

                  OR 

    • Aa Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and Physics plus a post graduate Diploma in Meteorology or its equivalent from a university recognized in Kenya;
    • A Certificate in operational Training Course lasting not less than six months from a recognized institution;
    • Demonstrated professional competence as reflected in the work performance and results;  and
    • Clear understanding of National goals, values and principles of governance.
