    Consultant - GIS Data Management

    Purpose of consultancy

    To provide technical input to the WHO GIS Centre for Health in the data management of its different GIS health-related projects.

    Deliverables

    • The provision of a GIS Data project plan by interpreting and analyzing data in relation to the development of data related to maps, apps and other information products in line with project needs.
    • Production of a consolidated report with recommendations for the ongoing GIS data management technical support to end users.
    • Providing support in the compilation of map production requests by using standard plotting techniques.
    • Conducting continuous cleaning of datasets to support GIS data analysis and reporting on this monthly. 
    • Conducting web searches and collating various GIS related baseline data such as population, roads, hospitals, land use, administrative boundaries and related, for reporting purposes.

    Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

    Educational Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • University degree in geographic information systems, information technology, public health, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.    

    Experience

    Essential:

    • Three years of experience in the public health field, geographic information systems, or related discipline.
    • Experience presenting to and educating small groups.

    Desirable:

    • Experience with data management.
    • Experience with capacity development for information technology, GIS, and geospatial data. 
    • Experience working with international agencies or multinational companies, preferably in the health, development, or humanitarian fields.

    Skills/Knowledge:

    Essential:

    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and collaboratively as a member of a team.
    • Knowledge of GIS analysis software and IT tools skills (ArcGIS, QGIS, MS SQL, Excel, Share Point, Power BI).
    • Ability to deliver high-quality products under very tight deadlines.
    • Excellent organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and strong technical acumen.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-cultural environment. 
    • Proficiency in maintaining data quality, accuracy, and consistency.

    Desirable:

    • Programming and scripting expertise in Python, R. in GIS platforms.
    • Strong presentation skills with the ability to provide high-level support to meetings and events as part of a team highlighting relevant products and ensuing follow-up across teams or departments.
    • Knowledge of cartography, coordinate systems, and map projections. 
    • Proficiency using current ArcGIS Suite or related spatial technologies.
