    Fleet Manager - Kenya

     Are you passionate and experienced in logistics especially fleet manager with broad-based managerial skills to drive the team in achieving business goals and objectives to meet the customers’ expectations within the required Turn Around Time within the transport operations? Are you committed and passionate about ensuring quality services in transport operations and ethical practices? We are looking for an individual with experience as a Fleet Manager to support our transport operations in delivering excellent services to our customers.

    The Fleet Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of a fleet comprising over 25 Scania trucks and 30 Mercedes Actros trucks. This role requires a proactive leader with strong organizational skills, a deep understanding of logistics and transportation management, and the ability to manage a diverse team to ensure the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and compliance.

    About the role Key duties and responsibilities

    • Oversee the scheduling, dispatch, and routing of the fleet to ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods.
    • Implement and monitor fleet management systems for tracking and optimizing vehicle performance and utilization.
    • Develop and manage a preventive maintenance program to ensure the fleet remains in optimal condition.
    • Coordinate with workshops for regular servicing, repairs, and inspections of all vehicles.
    • Manage vehicle downtime and ensure minimal disruption to operations.
    • Ensure all vehicles comply with local transportation regulations and standards.
    • Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures for drivers and vehicles.
    • Conduct regular safety training and audits to maintain a culture of safety.
    • Monitor and manage fuel consumption and costs.
    • Implement strategies to reduce fuel wastage and enhance fuel efficiency.
    • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of drivers.
    • Develop driver schedules and monitor performance.
    • Address driver concerns and provide support to ensure high morale and productivity.
    • Develop and manage the fleet budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
    • Monitor expenses and identify opportunities for cost savings.
    • Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement for efficiency and effective operations.
    • Oversee the implementation and utilization of fleet management software and technologies.
    • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in fleet management technology.

    About you

    • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet management, preferably within the logistics or transportation industry.
    • Proven experience managing a large fleet of diverse vehicles, including heavy-duty trucks.
    • Proficiency in fleet management software and other relevant technologies.
    • Strong analytical skills.
    • Strong understanding of local transportation regulations and safety standards.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and vehicle maintenance.
    • Understanding the operational functions of the Workshop.
    • Proficiency in using maintenance management software.
    • Able to identify hazards and deal with them with direct instructions/guidance in place.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Strong understanding of transport logistics operations, processes, and technologies, including supply chain management.
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and influence decision-making at all levels of the organization.
