Geographical Information System Developer at County Government of Kisumu

Job Purpose:

Design, develop, and maintain GIS applications and systems to support decision-making, planning, and analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop, test, and maintain GIS applications and systems, including designing user interfaces, databases, and back-end systems.
• Develop custom tools and scripts to automate GIS processes.
• Manage and maintain geographic data, including data acquisition, cleaning, integration, and quality control.
• Perform spatial analysis to derive insights for decision-making processes.
• Design and produce maps and visualizations for various purposes such as reports, presentations, and web applications.
• Maintain and optimize spatial databases, ensuring data integrity and performance.
• Create comprehensive documentation for GIS applications, data, and processes.
• Conduct testing and quality assurance to ensure GIS applications are error-free and perform as expected.
• Provide training and support to end-users, helping them utilize GIS tools and applications effectively.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including GIS analysts, cartographers, and domain experts, to understand project requirements and deliver solutions that meet the needs of stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Academic: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geography, Geospatial Sciences, or related field.
• Experience: At least 2 years in developing GIS-based tools for data collection and analysis.
• Skills: Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, or other open-source GIS tools), strong programming skills in languages like Python and JavaScript, deep understanding of spatial concepts and geographical data, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and good communication skills.
