    Legal Associate

    Position Overview:

    • We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Associate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience practicing law in Kenya, with a strong background in legal research, drafting legal documents, and providing strategic legal advice to clients. The Legal Associate will work closely with partners and senior associates on a wide range of legal matters, including corporate law, commercial transactions, litigation, and regulatory compliance.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Legal Research: Conduct thorough legal research on various issues related to Kenyan law, including statutes, regulations, case law, and legal precedents.
    • Drafting and Reviewing Legal Documents: Prepare and review legal documents, including contracts, agreements, pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal correspondence, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
    • Client Counselling: Provide timely and strategic legal advice to clients on a broad spectrum of legal issues, including corporate governance, contractual matters, intellectual property rights, employment law, and regulatory compliance.
    • Litigation Support: Assist in the preparation of legal strategies, arguments, and documentation for litigation matters, including court appearances, hearings, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
    • Transactional Support: Support senior attorneys in negotiating, structuring, and documenting commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and other corporate matters.
    • Due Diligence: Conduct due diligence investigations and assessments on behalf of clients in connection with business transactions, regulatory compliance, and legal disputes.
    • Legal Compliance: Stay informed about changes in Kenyan laws, regulations, and judicial decisions affecting clients' interests, and advise clients on compliance obligations and risk management strategies.
    • Client Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients by delivering high-quality legal services, understanding their business needs, and providing proactive legal solutions.
    • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Provide guidance and support to clients on CSR initiatives, policies, and compliance requirements. Assist in drafting CSR policies, codes of conduct, and sustainability reports. Advise clients on CSR-related legal risks and best practices.
    • Data Protection: Offer legal advice and assistance on data protection laws, regulations, and compliance requirements, including Kenya's Data Protection Act and GDPR. Conduct data protection impact assessments and assist clients in developing data protection policies and procedures. Handle data breach incidents and advise clients on mitigation strategies and regulatory reporting requirements.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from a recognized university.
    • Advocates Admission Certificate from the Kenya School of Law.
    • 3 years of post-admission experience practicing law in Kenya, preferably with a reputable law firm or corporate legal department.
    • In-depth knowledge of Kenyan laws and legal procedures, with expertise in one or more practice areas such as corporate law, employment law, commercial law and litigation.
    • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate and train on complex legal concepts effectively.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a client-focused approach to legal practice.
    • Proficiency in legal research tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant software applications.
