    Manager, Credit Monitoring

    JOB SUMMARY:

    • To oversee and manage monitoring of disbursed facilities to ensure sustenance of a high quality portfolio.
    • To lead the unit in monitoring disbursed facilities to ensure compliance with Credit policy, underwriting standards and approval terms and conditions as well as tracking and ensuring adherence to approvals covenants.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Strategy - 10%

    • Play an active role in execution of SBM bank’s Growth strategy in terms of Assets growth by monitoring sanctioned facilities to ensure sustenance of high quality and compliance with sanction terms and conditions and other approval covenants. 
    • Review of booked facilities to ensure they are booked correctly and that all income due to the Bank is collected promptly.
    • Ensuring continuous process reengineering with a view to improving efficiency to ensure compliance with set Service Level Agreements.
    • Review and recommend modifications in the Credit Policies and Credit Procedure manuals to support the Bank where new processes are identified or processes modified.
    • Give guidance and mentoring to the team members to improve performance and retain talent.

    Operations - 50%

    • Review all disbursed facilities to ensure accuracy of the booking and compliance with approval terms and conditions and adherence to approval covenants.
    • Reviewing performance of all the performing accounts from time to time to ascertain their health, identify any early warning signs for effective and timely remedial action to ensure sustenance of a healthy portfolio.
    • Review and manage monitoring and follow up facility covenants as well as review of financial health of borrowing accounts under the performing portfolio.
    • Review collections comments from time to time and intervene on sensitive accounts in terms of exposure or progression of DPDs.
    • Prepare and coordinate preparation of and presentation of monthly Portfolio Review Report to PRC during monthly portfolio review meeting.
    • Prepare and coordinate presentation of Loan Arrears and collection reports to during monthly EAC meetings for all the business segments.
    • Monitoring construction projects financed by the Bank and conducting joint site visits before tranche disbursements to facilitate onsite review.
    • Review and ensure compliance with specific covenants meant to ensure sustenance of quality portfolio and favourable returns from specific relationship managers.
    • Carry out review of the dairy and track follow up of any approved exceptions as well as renewal of periodic covenants.
    • Offer guidance and direction to the team on various issues.
    • Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.

    People Management - 15%

    • Manage the staffing, workload and output of all staff in the Credit Monitoring unit.
    • Evaluate the performance of the staff in the unit.
    • Maintain good coordination between the Credit Monitoring and other units, credit collections, DRU and business development.
    • Ensure commensurate training of all Credit staff, in new or modified credit Procedures, forms, credit policies.
    • Provide administrative and mentoring support to all staff in Credit monitoring unit.
    • Prepare the annual performance unit agreements to be presented to the Director of Credit for integration into the bank’s overall annual plans.

    Compliance - 20%

    • Credit Policy Manuals, Product guidelines and Credit Procedure manual prudential guidelines and SLAs.
    • Legal regulations.
    • Other internal and external regulatory requirements.

    Other - 5%

    • Safeguard and promote the bank’s image with the general public.

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

    Direct Reports to this Role

    • Credit Monitoring team.

    Knowledge; Skills and Experience required for this Role

    • Comprehensive banking background and extensive experience in credit monitoring and loan portfolio management.
    • Bachelor’s degree in a business management discipline in either; finance, business and economics or related field.
    • A professional qualification in CPA/ ACCA/ AKIB or equivalent.
    • Excellent Communication skills.
