    Principal County Legal Counsel

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Representing the County Government in court, tribunals, or other legal proceedings as instructed by the County Solicitor in consultation with the County Attorney, excluding criminal proceedings.
    • Supporting the County Legal Department and various County Departments in drafting legislative proposals, policies, and regulations.
    • Handling pre-legal disputes and inquiries, preparing legal opinions, drafting leases, and contracts.
    • Formulating, implementing, and reviewing legal strategies, policies, plans, standards, and procedures aligned with the County’s strategic plan.
    • Advising and assisting the County Government in complying with national and international legal instruments.
    • Ensuring adherence to principles and values of good governance, human rights, transparency, ethics, and integrity.
    • Analyzing research data and compiling reports.
    • Undertaking law reviews and interpreting legal instruments and statutes.
    • Liaising with external counsel on cases assigned to handle matters for the County Government.
    • Performing any other functions assigned from time to time.

    Requirements for Appointment

    • Must be a Kenyan citizen.
    • Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from a university recognized in Kenya.
    • Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
    • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
    • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
    • Current valid practicing certificate.
    • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in public or private legal practice.
    • Proficiency in computer skills.
    • Satisfies the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 on leadership and integrity.
    • Demonstrated understanding of National Values and Principles of Governance and Public Service as stipulated in Articles 10 and 232 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
