    Urban Sports Coordinator

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    Under the supervision of the Unit Leader, Youth and Livelihoods Unit, the consultant will be responsible for the following tasks and outputs:

    • Develops support mechanisms for strengthening youth participation, technical leadership and coordination of the Urban Sports Programme, with a view to ensuring the long term sustainability of programme activities and its harmonization with the New Urban Agenda

    • Drafts project concepts, project documents and agreements relevant to Youth & Sports

    • Provides advice in development of content: publications and discussion papers

    • Supports in designing a framework for effective monitoring and evaluation of all youth and sport related activities

    • Supports in developing progress reports

    • Supports design and organization of conferences and workshops

    • Provides inputs on cross-cutting issues, Gender, Youth and Human Rights

    • Provides direct support to the Unit/Branch coordinator on other tasks required to meet the branch objectives

    • Mobilize new and communicate with existing partners, donors and youth groups to engage them in relevant activities relating to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda

    • Prepare content for Unit’s social media as well as other materials (website, brochures, exhibitions) designed for public

    • Facilitates the preparation and organization of international and national meetings and workshops

    OUTPUTS
    The Consultant is required to prepare a final report and outputs on the status of the Urban Sports Programme, partners and donors engagement and the units communication material.

    EDUCATION

    University degree in Sustainable Peace through Sport, Development Studies or equivalent is required.

    WORK EXPERIENCE

    1. Three years at professional level in work relevant to duties, some of which preferably within the UN system and/or other organization at international level. Previous experience working with the United Nations on issues related to youth and sport is desirable and will be an added advantage

    Additionally, the consultant should have substantial experience in the following areas:

    1. Proven experience in writing, editing and managing publications, preferably on youth issues

    2. Experience working with different stakeholders, ranging from government officials, media, private sector to youth groups

    3. Experience working  independently and as part of a team and to deliver on time and under pressure

    4. Knowledge of UN systems and procedures will be a plus.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage.

    Innovate Counties Challenge Project Coordinator

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    Terms of reference:
    The consultant will spend majority of their time coordinating the implementation of the Innovate Counties Project and support the ICT as a driver for urban prosperity project
    The expected tasks include:

    • Coordinate ICT and sustainable cities projects in collaboration with participating UN-Habitat branches and external partners

    • Organize expert group meetings, training sessions and multi stakeholder sessions aimed at enhancing the delivery of the projects.

    • Establish and managing partnerships with counties, academic institutions and researchers as and when required by the projects, including with the preparation of agreements of cooperation with research and implementing partners.

    • Produce annual project reports on the projects.

    • Monitor the financial expenditure of the projects.

    • Provide communications, monitoring and administrative backing to the projects.

    • Arrange and take part in regular project team meetings.

    Output expectations:

    • Organize one urban challenge workshop

    • Organize three urban bootcamps for county governments in three counties

    • Organize three hackathons in three counties

    • Produce reports on the aforementioned activities

    Travel:
    It is expected that the consultant will undertake occasional missions to meet with the project team and to support project activities in Kenya as well as being part of the delegation to the UN-Habitat III conference.
    Training:
    The UN Office at Nairobi (UNON) provides language training in all official UN-languages plus Kiswahili. This service is also available to the Consultant. UNON also periodically offers training in a number of other areas such as competency-based interviewing skills, results-based management and project management. These trainings courses will be open to the Consultant.  However, participation on a course cannot be guaranteed as limited places are available.
    The supervisor and Consultant will discuss and agree on specific training needs and opportunities (for example in relation to project development and management).

    EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

    • The incumbent is required to have a university degree fulfilled when applying for the position. The academic background should be in any of the following fields: International Development, Social Sciences, Administration, Urban Development. A relevant Masters degree is an asset.

    • The incumbent should have at least 4 years of relevant work experience. Experience from the ICT or telecommunications sector is an asset.

    • Good project cycle coordination and management skills covering project design, implementation and monitoring.

    • An understanding of urban planning, urban development, urban policy and legislation and sustainable urbanization. Knowledge of the smart cities field, ICT4D projects, or urban indicators is an asset.

    • Excellent ICT skills and analytical and communication skills.

    • The ability to draft a wide selection of written communication and to articulate ideas in a clear and concise manner. Research skills, particularly in the technology field, are an asset.

    • Good interpersonal skills, previous exposure to cross cultural environments is advantageous.

    • Ability to work well in a team whilst also having the capacity and initiative to work independently is required.

    • Knowledge of the UN, including working experience in a developing country and working experience with the UN (work within the UN, or working with UN agencies and programmes) are assets.

    • Fluency in English, written and verbal, is required. Working knowledge of Kiswahili, is an asset as significant work in Kenya is expected.

    Project Assistant

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide support to the Youth Advisory Board by coordinating their meetings to centrally meet UN-Habitat’s mission.

    • Support the Youth Advisory Board in providing progress and annual reports on their activities.

    • Provide support on social media by managing UN-Habitat Youth accounts in Face Book, Twitter, Snap Chat and Instagram.

    • Assist in sending out the monthly UN-Habitat Youth newsletters to the subscribers and manage the account

    • Facilitate the editing and publishing of youth related stories on unhabitat.org web blog.

    • Facilitate the publishing of UN-Habitat Youth articles on the United Nations Youth Flash newsletters.

    • Provide research support in the Youth and Livelihood unit’s programmes such as the Urban Youth Fund programme.

    • Provide support to the Unit Leader when called upon. **

    OUTPUTS
    The Consultant is required to prepare a final report and outputs on the status of the Youth Advisory Board activities, Youth Programme social media accounts, Youth newsletters and research.

    EDUCATION
    • University Degree in International relations, urban studies, public administration, or other related social sciences.is required

    WORK EXPERIENCE

    • A minimum of 1 year of progressively responsible experience involving youth and Community development programmes Knowledge of databases

    • Strong interpersonal skills and the experience in working in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity

    • Capacity to work with minimal supervision

    • UN experiences an advantage.

    Assistant Programme Administrator

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    Under the supervision of the Unit Chief, Youth and Livelihoods, the consultant will be responsible for the following tasks and outputs:

    • Create and manage a comprehensive Partners database:
    • Provide support in data entry into a database of the contacts of partners and personalities supporting the youth activities.
    • Regularly update the Partners database
    • Update Partners on new changes within the UN System that they need to adjust to.
    • Drafting Memos
    • Support in the development of monitoring structures to track project administrative financial related responsibilities
    • Assist in follow up of payments to implementing partners and vendors
    • Provide assistance in the development of publications

    Provide direct support to the branch coordinator on other tasks required to meet the branch objectives

    OUTPUTS
    The Consultant is required to prepare a final report and outputs on the status of the partner database, the project administrative financial related duties including payments to partners and vendors.

    REMUNERATION
    Payments will be based on deliverables over the consultancy period. There are set remuneration rates for consultancies. The rate is determined by functions performed and experience of the consultant. The fees will be paid as per agreement.
