    Social Media Officer, Communications and Development Support

    Position Summary

    • The Social Media Officer will contribute to the full scope of strategic communication support tasks including the development and production social media management, strategy development, videography, and writing. The Officer will have an emphasis on digital and social media platforms. This position will report to the Social Media Lead and work full-time at MSI’s office in Nairobi.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist the Social Media Lead to develop, plan, and conduct social media campaigns on a quarterly basis.
    • Draft original social media messaging and toolkits with proposed text, corresponding links, and appropriate images daily.
    • Develop and maintain a list of e-newsletters, websites, blogs, and other reputable sources of content for use by colleagues.
    • Work with the Social Media Lead in automation and optimization of social media performance measurement and optimize content based on algorithms and insights, leveraging SEO, hashtags, acronyms, and emojis to drive visibility and engagement.
    • Develop and deliver general and advanced social media training for implementing partners (IPs) and communications staff including advertising, content development, and analytics.
    • Assist the Social Media Lead in setting up social media advertisements and buys within the budget and provide a return on investment for ad spend.
    • Contribute to the professional presentation and execution of communications products and services and contribute to systems to track metrics/indicators.
    • Produce compelling, relevant content that adheres to USAID branding and style guidelines.
    • Interpret and tailor complex, technical content and make it understandable for different audiences.
    • Assist the Social Media Lead in working with other Photographers and Videographers to capture human interest stories.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required. Social media or digital marketing certifications are preferred.
    • Minimum three years of relevant professional experience in journalism or public relations, included experience in digital technologies such as Hootsuite, Meta Ads, Twitter Ads, Brandwatch, or others is required.
    • Experience working with non-governmental organizations, donors and/or agency, or mass media is preferred.
    • Experience with and broad knowledge of digital websites, social networking, email, and blogging, photography, and videography to seamlessly apply to multiple scenarios is required.
    • Experience working and traveling in Kenya and in-depth understanding of Kenyan culture, geography and development issues is preferred.
    • Experience with non-governmental organizations, donors, and/or agency or mass media is preferred.
    • Strong written and verbal fluency in English and Kiswahili is required.

    Production Intern, Communications and Development Support

    Position Summary

    • The Production Intern will be a part of the internship program supporting the USAID mission in Kenya. The position will report to their assigned supervisor and be based in MSI’s Nairobi field office, with the option to work remotely, as needed. Internships require a minimum part-time commitment of 25 hours per week or a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week during regular business hours, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. The ideal availability for this role before July 15, 2024. This is a paid position, and we anticipate the candidate starting soonest after presenting an offer.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in coordinating photo and video coverage with staff, consultants, and project partners including helping with in-person photography and videography sessions.
    • Support the design and execution of photography and video projects from concept to completion, including planning, fieldwork, and post-production.
    • Help track incoming and anticipated content needs to ensure timely delivery.
    • Participate in storyboarding sessions to help visualize project concepts.
    • Help coordinate with photography and videography vendors to maintain a cloud-based audio-visual library.
    • Assist in managing the YouTube channel by uploading, captioning, and tracking video performance.
    • Support the creation of social media content, including short videos and shareable visuals.
    • Perform any other assigned duties as established with the intern’s supervisor.

    Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in bachelor’s degree program in communications, marketing, graphic design, multimedia, or a related field is required.
    • Currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in communications, marketing, graphic design, multimedia, or a related field is preferred.
    • Ability to work with non-governmental organizations, donors, development partners, or media organizations required.
    • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under tight deadlines required.
    • Ability to be proactive, solve problems, and work independently and in a highly collaborative environment required.
    • Ability to adapt to various demands, demonstrate a high level of client service and response, and handle confidential information discreetly required.
    • Strong oral and written communication, numerical, proofreading, attention to detail, and organizational skills required.
    • Proficiency in standard software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Adobe Suite including Adobe Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop, and other products, and Google Suite is required.
    • Fluency in English required.
