    IB Science Teacher Biology ESS

    Key Responsibilities

    • Collaboratively develop and implement a comprehensive Science curriculum that aligns with the IB standards and philosophy. This may involve designing units of study, lesson plans, and assessments that incorporate IB principles, including inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary connections, and international-mindedness.
    • Provide inspirational Science teaching, across diverse grade levels, and cultivate students’ understanding, creativity, and skills to encompass theory, practical application, experimentation, and analytical comprehension.
    • Adapt teaching strategies and learning resources to meet students’ diverse needs, including those with different learning styles and special needs and provide additional support or challenge to ensure every learner thrives.
    • Use varied formative and summative assessments in line with the IB requirements to assess student understanding and provide useful feedback to learners and parents/guardians, check for understanding and fill in any gaps in learning, and accurately evaluate and report on the progress and attainment of each student.
    • Positively and regularly engage with parents/guardians to build a collaborative learning culture.
    • Demonstrate expert knowledge and understanding of the relevant subject and pedagogical instruction.
    • Effectively and regularly communicate with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians, including through email and the school information system.
    • Demonstrate integrity and high professional values and practices that align with AKAN and the IB.
    • Show profound commitment to ongoing professional growth and take on responsibility for fulfilling the vision and philosophy of the Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi and the International Baccalaureate.

    Head Teacher

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide executive leadership through building a high-performance, culturally diverse team, committed to achieving the vision of the school and ongoing school improvement.
    • Manage the school efficiently and effectively by ensuring compliance in curriculum and assessment systems; staff management appraisal; compensation and professional development; students’ welfare; budget and finance; parental & community relations; school operations among others.
    • Provide policy guidance on relevant issues regarding AKESK and abide by the code of conduct of AKDN and AKESK.
    • Build relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observe proper boundaries appropriate to the profession.
    • Uphold the obligation to give account and accept responsibility, establish and sustain professional working relationship with those responsible for governance.
    • Forge constructive relationships beyond the school, working in partnership with parents, the local and wider community.
    • Ensure the safety of students and staff through effective approaches to safeguarding their welfare.
    • Make a positive contribution to the wider education system.
    • Carry out other tasks in line with this role and as specified by the Chief Executive Officer from time to time.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood (Upper Second-Class Honors) from a recognized University.
    • Registered with Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
    • Working Knowledge of 5 years in leadership experience in Early Years school with noticeable achievements in leading reputable Nursery Schools.
    • Experience in managing a school(s), budgeting and finance matters, including fee collections.
    • Present evidence of involvement in facilitation and or participation in professional development.
    • Thorough knowledge of legal aspects within education management especially Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Education, Employment, Children’s Health and Safety Acts in addition to other Acts that relate to Education and Children.
    • Excellent team building skills and proven experience in leading, motivating and empowering people.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.

    Teacher Librarian

    Key Responsibilities

    • Work collaboratively with library staff and classroom teachers in planning, teaching and learning in the PYP.
    • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to ensure information literacy skills and processes are integrated into curriculum based learning experiences.
    • Model and encourage 21st Century collaborative learning behaviours, fully utilising available web technologies.
    • Maintain a high level of knowledge and interest in new and emerging technologies.
    • Support the teachers in maintaining a positive and stimulating learning environment.
    • Promote and foster a culture of reading for enjoyment.
    • Maintain the library as a centre of learning and inquiry for the school.
    • Planning the library programme integrated with the overall school curricula.
    • Developing a plan to evaluate the library programme in line with the curricula expectations.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Degree in Library and Information Science plus a teaching qualification.
    • Proficiency in current technologies including but not limited to Microsoft Office packages.
    • 5 years’ experience in a similar position.
    • TSC Certificate.
    • Experience of teaching in a school environment.
