    Project Technologist

    The Position

    This is a full time position based at the Department of Clinical Studies, Faculty of VeterinaryMedicine, University of Nairobi. It is a four (4) year position with a possibility of extension.

    Job specifications

    1. The applicant should be a holder of Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent
    2. He or she must have at least two (2) years’ working experience
    3. The applicant must be registered and retained with the Kenya Medical Laboratory
    4. Technicians and Technologists Board
    5. He or she should have experience in Molecular Diagnosis for the last one (1) year
    6. A candidate who has worked in an animal health laboratory will have an added advantage

    Job description

    1. Working directly under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Technologist shall undertake the following assignments:
    2. Participate in the day-to-day laboratory diagnosis activities
    3. Assist the PhD and MSc Fellows carry out their laboratory diagnosis activities
    4. Prepare requisitions for the procurement of laboratory supplies and reagents
    5. Keep an inventory of the laboratory supplies and reagents
    6. Maintain a database of all the diagnostic tests carried out in the laboratory
    7. Prepare monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual project reports on the number of diagnostic tests carried out
    8. Any other duties related to the project as may assigned by the Principal Investigator

    Terms of appointment

    1. This a position whose tenure is one (1) year contract renewable based on performance and bymutual consent. An attractive package commensurate to the position and approved by the donor will be offered.

    Senior Software Developer, Criss Plus Project - AD/3/36/22

    The Project

    The University of Nairobi through the CRISS Plus Project has received funding from the UnitedStates Government’s Centres for Disease Control and Prevention to support HIV prevention, careand treatment activities at Kiambu and Kirinyaga Counties.

    Minimum requirements

    1. Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
    2. Have at least five (5) years’ experience in health information technology related project management (software development).

    Post Doctoral Researcher Social Sciences(Qualitative), Reach Kenya Programme - AD/3/32/22

    The Project

    REACH is an international, collaborative project led by Oxford University (OU), financially supported by FCDO, with Ethiopia, Kenya and Bangladesh as project implementing countries. In Kenya, the University of Nairobi is the national focal research institution, in collaboration with UNICEF and the County Governments of Turkana and Kitui.

    Job description

    The Postdoctoral Researcher will work within the REACH Social Science team at the University of Nairobi and be required to:

    1. Individually lead and design social science research using qualitative methods, closely aligned with REACH research priorities tunderstand water security inequalities in Lodwar:
      • Design data collection tools using qualitative methods;
      • Undertake qualitative analyses;
      • Frequent within-country travel tfield site(s);
    2. Support with logistics of qualitative research led by senior researchers in the University of Nairobi and the University of Oxford, including hiring and training data collectors / enumerators;
    3. Advance research methodologies, ideas and materials independently and in collaboration with academic colleagues for high-quality research publications and presentations in public forums or academic conferences;
    4. Participate in workshops, meetings, and events for REACH;
    5. Engage with REACH’s research impact agenda including participation in the development of stakeholder engagement activities;
    6. Adhere tthe requirements of the Postdoctoral Fellowship Policy of the University of Nairobi.

    Job specifications

    1. PhD degree in social sciences/anthropology/international development or relevant field;
    2. Proven experience in qualitative data collection;
    3. Awareness of key issues and ideas within the social development agenda in Kenya;
    4. Excellent communication skills, including the ability twrite for publication,
    5. present research results, and represent the research group.
    6. An established publication record will be an added advantage.
