    Calligraphy Specialist

     Responsibilities:

    • Within delegated authority, the Calligraphy Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:  
    • Produces calligraphy work in welcoming Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the United Nations Environment Programme.    
    • Participates, as a specialist, in preparing calligraphy work for the Executive Office.
    • Interfaces, as required, with the Front Desk to ensure a complete understanding of the assignment.
    • Maintains a clean and well-organized work area, especially on the maintenance of Guest Books.
    • Prepares guest books for committees and meetings/conferences to be held in Nairobi.
    • Performs formatting and layout in line with protocol and calligraphy standards for input on print and written content.
    • Compiles, summarizes and enters information on work delivery and drafts related status reports, and brings to the attention of management.

    Academic Qualifications:

    • Any additional qualification in in one of the above disciplines will be an advantage.  

    Work Experience:  

    • A minimum of five years of work experience in communications, public relations, or protocol affairs is required.
    • Proven experience in designing and preparing calligraphy sign plates is required.
    • Experience working in an international organization is desirable.
    • Experience in interacting with a range of local, national and international partners is desirable.

    Programme Management Officer

    Responsibilities

    • Develops strategies and supports implementation of institutional frameworks for UNEP to support the work of the UN Country Teams, working with the UN Development Coordination Office, its regional offices, UNEP regional and divisional offices and other related UN entities. 
    • Drafts policies and strategies for the integration of the environmental dimension of sustainable development into UNCT planning and programming processes, including Common Country Analyses and UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks. 
    • Facilitates knowledge management and collaboration across UNCT focal points and the UNCT engagement network.
    • Develops, implements and evaluates assigned projects and programmes; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and initiates corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; ensures follow-up actions. 
    • Researches, organizes and prepares written outputs e.g. draft background papers, analyze sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications. 
    • Coordinates policy development, including review and analysis of issues and trends, work closely with Divisions, Regional offices and Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) to offer to Member States support in the development of relevant environmental policies, laws and norms to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs at the local, national, regional and global levels using integrated approaches. 
    • Coordinates the development and communication of strategic partnerships. 
    • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
    • Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of seven years (7) of progressively responsible experience working in policy, activities related to sustainable development, programme planning, policy development and review , project implementation, monitoring and evaluation; or related area, is required.    
    • Experience working with the UN or other international organizations is desirable.    
    • Working experience on 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals is desirable.    
    • Experience in regional/country level environmental programming and planning is desirable.    
    • Experience in the use of environmental, social, and economic data and information to draft policy briefs and other reports for decision making is desirable.    
    • Experience working with inter-governmental and/or inter-agency organizations is desirable.    
    • A minimum of two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

    Coral Reef Expert

    Tasks and Responsibilities:

    • The International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) is a global partnership between nations and organizations which strives to preserve coral reefs and related ecosystems around the world. Although, the Initiative is an informal group whose decisions are not binding on its members, its actions have been pivotal in continuing to highlight the importance of coral reefs and related ecosystems to environmental sustainability, food security and social and cultural wellbeing.
    • The work of ICRI is regularly acknowledged in United Nations documents, highlighting the Initiative’s important cooperation, collaboration and advocacy role within the international arena. On the 9-13 September 2024, the 38th ICRI General Meeting will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.  
    • The consultant is expected to: develop an up-to-date database of ICRI members and analysis on ICRI members vs duties; produce a detailed documents for the 38th ICRI General Meeting in 2024, including summary record; report on the summary of ICRI’s activities at the CBD COP-16. 31 December 2024;
    • develop an Implementation and Governance Plan for the Coral Reef Breakthrough; produce an ICRI 2024 Impact report for the activities of the ICRI Secretariat; and submit quarterly reports on ICRI communication efforts through its social media channels.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in environmental science, social science, marine biology, sustainable development or related fields is required.
    • A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics or data science programs is desirable.  
    • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management delivering sustainable development and/or coral reef conservation is required.
    • Experience in programme management within the UN or similar large institution is desirable.
    • Experience working with and coordinating with diverse teams in multiple countries and contexts is required.

    Gender and Safeguard consultant

    Duties and Responsibilities 

    • Gender Action Plan for the Source to Sea project, including its monitoring framework.   
    • Develop a Stakeholder Engagement plan for both projects and its key actions, including their monitoring frameworks.   
    • Accompany a mission for the Sustainable Watershed Management project. 
    • Support project managers with taking a human rights-based approach (HRBA) in  identifying and engaging local community members, indigenous people, and other marginalized and vulnerable people in terms of their needs, concerns, roles, and opportunities associated with the concerned projects through close consultation with the Gender and Safeguards Unit. 
    • Advise project managers to design solutions which consider differences in ability, gender-based violence, gender-mainstream approaches, and effective engagement of local stakeholders by exploring best practices and methodologies. 
    • Capacity development for the branch on gender and safeguards considerations to ensure gender and safeguards approaches are reflected in all project activities.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A Bachelor’s degree in political science, gender studies, sociology, environmental management, or a closely related field is required.
    • The years of experience will be reduced by two for candidates who possess a master’s degree in the same field  
    • Academic qualification on environment, natural resources management or related area is desirable.  
    • Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in the technical area of gender mainstreaming, stakeholder engagement, community development, and social and environmental safeguards risk assessment and mitigation, is required.  
    • Within the required 4 years of experience, at least 3 years relevant experience in carrying out participatory gender analysis; experience collecting and formulating gender responsive indicators and sex-disaggregated data and preparing gender responsive project analysis; developing gender action plans is required.  
    • Excellent analytical, writing, advocacy, presentation, and communications skills are required.  
    • Knowledge on freshwater and marine ecosystems issues related to gender is highly desired.  
    • Prior experience in the safeguards assessments and processes of international organizations is desired.  
    • Demonstrated experience in carrying out consultations with Indigenous Peoples, FPIC, protection of cultural heritage, and/or community engagement is highly desired.  
    • Demonstrated understanding of the links between sustainable development, social and gender issues is highly desired.
