    Data Protection Officer

    Job Description

     

     

    The role holder will be responsible for ensuring that the UAP OM Group processes personal data of its staff, customers, providers or any other individuals (also referred to as data subjects) in compliance with the applicable data protection regulations in the region.

     

     

    JOB SUMMARY

    The role holder will be responsible for ensuring that the UAP OM Group processes personal data of its staff, customers, providers or any other individuals (also referred to as data subjects) in compliance with the applicable data protection regulations in the region.

    KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Incumbent will report to the Group Head of Compliance and will be responsible for:

    • Developing and maintaining a mapping of Data protection and privacy legislation in all UAPOM’s operating territories
    • Maintaining data protection policies and procedures.
    • Monitoring and ensuring compliance with the Data Protection laws and policies of the Group as outlined by the regulator.
    • Conducting training and awareness sessions to all EA Staff on Data Privacy requirements and obligations of the Group
    • Ensuring Data privacy policy availability by publishing on the Intranet for employees and independent contractors to access and providing it to all third parties who process personal information on UAPOM’s behalf or in terms of a contractual agreement with UAPOM.
    • Management of third party data protection risks
    • Ensuring Data Privacy Impact Assessments are undertaken in line with data privacy laws.
    • Driving implementation of essential elements of the DPA, such as the principles of data processing, data subjects’ rights, data protection by design and by default, records of processing activities, security of processing, and notification and communication of data breaches.
    • Overseeing the maintenance of records required to demonstrate data protection compliance.
    • Review and update Data privacy policy for the Group as required.
    • Supporting data incident response and data breach notification procedures.
    • Providing updates on the Data Protection and Privacy compliance programme.
    • Regular reporting on Compliance as required
    • Any other Compliance related responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

    SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

    • Experience working in a financial and/or regulated industry.
    • Experience reviewing information systems related contracts
    • Self-driven individual able to take accountability for role delivery
    • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
    • Detail-oriented approach needed to recommend and implement improvements on a range of data privacy and data protection issues.

    KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

    • Well-developed, professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all levels.
    • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion and ethics.
    • Experience in managing data incidents and breaches.
    • Good understanding of data processing operations, including information systems, data security and data protection needs of an institution

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • A Bachelor’s degree in ICT, Law, Business Administration or any other Business-related degree
    • 5 years’ experience within ICT, legal, audit and/or risk function handling company data.
    • Hold at least one Data Protection and/or Privacy certification

    Legal Intern

    Job Description

    The incumbent will support the Legal Claims team on legal claims analysis and processing

    • Legal claims analysis and processing.
    • Receiving judgments and recommending for approval on whether to settle or appeal
    • Raising and approving payments per set guidelines
    • Seeking reimbursement of our share of co-insurance from other insurance companies
    • Participating in reserving by ensuring that the funds set aside on every file are sufficient to cater for any claims that may arise regarding that claim
    • Instructing our advocates on recovery of sums due
    • Processing of third party claims to ensure that both internal and external clients are attended to within the TAT
    • Preparing legal opinions or legal insight after research on various matters
    • Appointing of advocates and tracers both for defense and recovery
    • Following up to ensure court attendance by witnesses
    • Updating, maintaining summons register, negotiating third party injuries claims and Ensuring excess is collected on injury claims
    • Following up insured’s to sign affidavits and statements
    • Updating/managing the recovery register

    Claims Analyst

    Job Description

    To process medical claims with a focus on control and management of member benefits through vetting and coding of inpatient and outpatient bills and capturing in the company medical business operating system(s).

    • Verify audit and capture outpatient and inpatient claims as per the claims manual and customer service charter manual to ensure compliance to agreed turnaround times and mitigate risk.
    • Negotiate professional fees including discounts to control expenditure.
    • Hold regular business meetings with service providers to ensure compliance on systems such smart card system and agreed tariffs.
    • Monitor, prevent and control medical claims fraud by carrying out regular audits on the internal and external systems/ processes.
    • Pre-authorize relevant outpatient services and generate monthly reports and recommendations on performance patterns.
    • Assist in case management activities.
    • Any other duties assigned by management.
