    Technical Lead - Food and Hygiene

    Job Description

    The incumbent shall be responsible for:

    • Leading and managing all functions related to food & hygiene inspections, sampling & testing and digital platforms. 
    • Leading and managing all functions related to 2nd and 3rd party food safety and hygiene audits under the hospitality, food service and catering sector.
    • Project manager, scheduler, and technical reviewer for the food customized audits in the Customized Audits & Tracking System Rizepoint Mobile Auditor Platform in the East Africa region.
    • Sales and marketing activities to foster business growth.

    Main duties and responsibilities:

    • Support audits for HEP clients and maintain a consistent schedule as per the contractual terms of service.
    • Coordinate food safety audits and trainings in the hospitality/hotel industry and also technical factory evaluations for food suppliers.
    • To ensure label reviews are done as per SGS guidelines and in accordance to national/ international regulations/ client requirements.
    • Ensure regular and timely updates are made to the client on progress of each job and make sure reporting KPIs and client requirements are met.
    • Supervise all functions related to food Audits, hygiene monitoring sampling through swabbing, food and water sampling and testing; upon request from the client; and verifying that all information provided for the job execution is complete to allow job execution without problems.
    • Train food auditors on SGS customized food audits
    • Review reports to ensure they are accurate and according to the standard SGS reporting specifications.
    • Manage food clients, reports and standards database and ensure its update.
    • Support the sales and marketing team in preparing technical proposals and in sales activities to develop new business in the sector and to maximize division profitability.
    • Offer technical advice to clients, line manager and SGS Food Audit requirements and ensuring reporting is done against agreed specifications and national/ international standards/ regulations.
    • Support finance in debt collection to keep day sales outstanding at a minimum.
    • To ensure that subordinates under your control are adequately trained and competent to carry out day to day activities in a professional manner in line with SGS code of ethics and integrity.
    • To ensure that SGS guidelines/ SOPs, ‘SGS Rules For Life’ and client's requirements and specific needs are expeditiously addressed and adhered to, and that professionalism and high standards are consistently maintained during job execution and reporting.
    • Ensure compliance to health, safety and environment procedures and policies for SGS and client.
    • At all times, comply with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.
    • Carry out any other assignment as may be advised from time to time.

    Qualifications

    • University degree in a Food related/ Science Course or equivalent educational background.
    • Two years’ experience in Management or supervision role.
    • Have good knowledge, skills and experience in the food industry including national and international standards/ regulations.
    • Good knowledge of GMP, HACCP and Food Safety Principles.
    • Must have successfully completed a recognized HACCP/ISO 22000 or Food Hygiene Training Course.
    • Must have successfully completed an approved lead auditor training course.
    • Mastery in inspection/ audit processes and ability to coordinate several inspections/ audit activities simultaneously.
    • Ability to Maintains contact with industry to maintain technical and operational competitiveness in the marketplace.
    • Proficient in Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook) and Operations Information Management Systems

    Technical Lead - Food Inspection Testing and Hygiene Monitoring

    Job Description

    • Review inspection and testing reports to ensure they are accurate and according to the standard SGS reporting specifications.
    • Train food inspectors on SGS food inspection and sampling Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Sales and marketing activities to foster business growth.

    Main duties and responsibilities:

    • Ensure regular and timely updates are made to the client on progress of each job and make sure reporting KPIs and client requirements are met.

    • Organize inspection and sampling schedules/travel itineraries and to ensure the inspections, sampling and testing is done as per SGS guidelines, meets client’s requirements and is in accordance to national/ international standards/ regulations; and invoicing as per SGS standards.
    • Ensure that reports are drafted timely and accurately upon completion of field work.
    • To ensure that subordinates under your control are adequately trained and competent to carry out day to day activities in a professional manner in line with SGS code of ethics and integrity.
    • Ensure compliance to health, safety and environment procedures and policies for SGS and client.
    • At all times, comply with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.

    Instrument Laboratory Analyst

    Job Description

    • Test food products and non-food products and any other items which require chromatographic/elemental/instrumental analysis in accordance to standard operating procedures, techniques, national, international and industry standards or client’s guidelines.
    • Ensure all activities are carried out in compliance with the laboratory’s QA/QC system with an emphasis on ISO 17025 and ensure GLP compliance where applicable.
    • Always ensure good instrumental techniques e.g. GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, GC-FID, ICP-OES, UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, FAAS, Vicam Fluorometer, Bomb Calorimeter are employed at all times.
    • To ensure that the results and test data produced is accurate, reliable and within acceptable repeatability/reproducibility Statements should start with a verb including what, how and why.
    • Ensure that the set turnaround time for every sample submitted is adhered to and that the clients’ testing requirements are fully met including application of correct methods/standards.
    • Adhere to health and safety measures in regard to general hygiene, sample testing, sample retention, disposal/destruction.
    • Ensure correct methods, standards and techniques are applied consistently in all analysis carried out including sample preparation prior to actual instrumental analysis.
    • Ensure that raw data of analysis carried out clearly supports results obtained prior to subsequent approval.
    • Responsible for housekeeping in the laboratory and ensure analysis is carried out in a clean and safe environment.
    • Keep abreast with all the latest developments of analytical standards related to elemental/instrumental analysis and technologies in order to continuously develop new methods and capabilities for validation and final adoption
    • To work in a flexible manner /pattern so that resources are aligned to workload, thus meeting customer needs for 24hrs,365-day service whilst still maintaining a long term, viable and competitive business for SGS.
    • Ensure competency issues are highlighted and appropriate training is provided according with experience, in either capacity as mentor or trainee to enable personal development which will benefit the laboratory team and maximize potential shortfalls in skills/experience in laboratory resources.
    • Any other duties assigned to you from time to time by Management.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry, or equivalent qualification from recognized institution
    • Minimum two years laboratory testing experience preferably in a multi-purpose laboratory.
    • Good knowledge of ISO 17025, ISO 9001 and HSE standards
    • Work with minimum supervision
    • Satisfactory capability in application of the relevant testing protocol
    • Have sound knowledge of laboratory work particularly instrumental methods used in trace analysis.
