    Graphic Design

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • The internship is in support of the Programme Coordination Project: Mainstreaming Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Across Sectors and Systems.
    • The intern shall work under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer within the Economics of Nature Unit.
    • The internship will be Nairobi based.
    • The intern is starting on July 1st, 2024, and ending on December 31st, 2024, and will support the afore-mentioned efforts with the responsibilities described below.
    • Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background as well as the internship period.

    Under the guidance of the Programme Officer of the TEN Unit, the intern will support the TEN Team in undertaking the following activities:

    • Designing communications materials such as brochures, presentations, factsheets, data visualization, infographics, and social media cards to support TEN’s communications & advocacy.
    • Redesigning and improving the project website.
    • Supporting staff in the Economics of Nature Unit and UNEP research partners working on the Programme Coordination Project: Mainstreaming Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Across Sectors and Systems with graphic design/web design/communications
    • Ensure visual consistency across all products.
    • Transforming text-based communications materials into visual graphic design materials such as infographics, animations, illustrations and others
    • Support the Biodiversity Plan and GBF communications work
    • Providing recommendations on relevant visual design style and materials suitable for different target audiences 8. Liaise with TEN Communications Specialist and UNEP Communications Division regarding any visual design work to ensure compliance with UNEP communications policies and branding guidelines.

    QualificationsSpecial Skills

    Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:

    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or
    • Have graduated with a university degree. Applicants must be pursuing qualifications in an area of study that can significantly contribute to the responsibilities outlined and overall work of TEN Unit including: Graphic Design, Multimedia, Web Design, Information Technology, Environmental Studies, Cultural Studies and related studies. In addition:
    • Be computer literate in standard software and design applications (adobe suite, canva, etc).
    • Demonstrate pleasant interpersonal skills.
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    • Have a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and has a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
    • However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

    Terminal Reviewer for Dominican Republic CBIT I and Trinidad & Tobago CBIT I Projects and PPG Consultant for the Development of Dominican Republic CBIT II, Trinidad and Tobago CBIT II

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The consultant will undertake the following duties:

    • For the terminal review - Author and lead the terminal review for the afore mentioned projects in accordance with GEF and UNEP policies.
    • Overall responsibility for undertaking the review and preparing the final report in English.
    • Review and assess (evaluation) all elements of the projects in accordance with UNEP evaluation office guidance documents.
    • Deliverables to be prepared in accordance with UNEP evaluation office templates.
    • The consultant will develop terminal review findings and recommendations based on sound evidence and analysis, and clearly document these in the final reports.
    • Information will be triangulated (i.e. verified from different sources) as far as possible, and when verification is not possible, a single source will be mentioned (whilst anonymity is still protected).
    • Analysis leading to evaluative judgments should always be clearly spelled out.

    The consultant shall base the findings of the terminal reviews on the following:

    • A desk review of: - Relevant background documentation, inter alia:
    • Project document and appendices. This includes, among others, relevant project documentation, CEO endorsement document annexes or appendixes, PCAs or ICAs and their annexes or appendixes, workplans, budget and supervision plans, as well as any revisions introduced after approval.
    • Theory of change, problem tree and logical frameworks.
    • Project reports, including: half year progress reports, project implementation reports (PIRs), expenditure reports, financial statements, audits, inventory reports, progress reports from collaborating partners, meeting minutes, relevant correspondence and Tracking Tool.
    • Evaluations/Reviews of similar projects, and - All information, templates, or guidance documents germane to the management-led review process issued by the GEF or UNEP Evaluation Office.
    • Prepare and organize in close coordination with the national counterparts a stakeholder validation workshop (second country mission) (in person for online) to validate the developed CEO Endorsement Document (log frames, results framework, budget, workplan, gender action plan, etc.) with key country counterparts.
    • Prepare a mission report and validation workshop report summarizing the findings, recommendations and decisions taken during the workshop, and the participants' list.
    • Prepare the submission package of the CEO endorsement document and associated annexes to the UNEP Project Review Committee (PRC) and draft the responses to the Committee's reviews.
    • Prepare a final stakeholder consultation report. The GEF requires that a report is prepared and submitted on stakeholder holder consultations undertaken during the PPG.
    • Prepare a presentation for internal discussion to UNEP management describing national circumstances and context, baseline, barriers, proposed intervention, and indicators.
    • Prepare a final and complete version of the CEO Endorsement Document and annexes for UNEP internal review and submission to GEF Secretariat.
    • Prepare the submission package of the CEO endorsement document and associated annexes to the GEF secretariat and draft responses to Secretariat reviews.

    Qualifications/Special Skills

    Academic:

    • Advanced university degree in engineering, economics, environmental sciences, management, or a related discipline is required
    • A first-level degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing, assessing, evaluating or managing projects in the field of climate change, renewable energy, environment or development, is required.
    • Experience in drafting project proposals and assessing project documents, including concepts, progress reports, work plans, and financial documents (budgets and expenditure reports) is required.
    • Experience working with GEF or UNEP projects is desirable.
    • Experience in working for multilateral or bilateral funding entities in the field of climate change, renewable energy environment or development is desirable.

    GEF Latin America & Caribbean Project Specialist

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The consultant will undertake the following duties:

    • Project management of projects under development
    • Provide technical input to projects under development;
    • Revise project implementation plans and ensure development steps are followed;
    • Revise the project development timeline and provide inputs to ensure project development occurs on time;
    • Provide inputs to stakeholder consultation processes in the development of the projects;
    • Develop a GEF-8 project development coordination tool and share with the Task Manager;

    Midterm Evaluation Expert – Uganda ABS Project

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • The consultant will also review all documentation of the subgrantees including their contracts.
    • Interviews (individual or group) with: UNEP Task Manager (TM); Project management team;
    • Review Tasks and Procedures The consultant will be responsible, in close consultation with the Task Manager, for overall management of the review and timely delivery of its outputs, described below.
    • The consultant will ensure that all evaluation criteria and questions are adequately covered.
    • Specifically, the consultant will be required to complete the following tasks: Inception Report: will contain confirmation of the results framework and theory of change of the project, project stakeholder analysis, review framework and a tentative review schedule.
    • Preliminary Findings Note: the sharing of preliminary findings is intended to support the participation of the project team, act as a means to ensure all information sources have been accessed and provide an opportunity to verify emerging findings.
    • Draft and Final Review Reports: will contain an executive summary that can act as a stand-alone document; detailed analysis of the review findings organised by review criteria and supported with evidence; lessons learned and recommendations and an annotated ratings table. Review of the draft MTR report.
    • The review team will submit a draft report to the Task Manager and revise the draft in response to their comments and suggestions.
    • Once a draft of adequate quality has been peer-reviewed and accepted, the Task Manager will share the cleared draft report with key project stakeholders for their review and comments.
    • Stakeholders may provide feedback on any errors of fact and may highlight the significance of such errors in any conclusions as well as providing feedback on the proposed recommendations and lessons.
    • Any comments or responses to draft reports will be sent to the Task Manager for consolidation.
    • The Task Manager will provide all comments to the review team for consideration in preparing the final report, along with guidance on areas of contradiction or issues requiring an institutional response.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • An advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) Natural sciences, Natural resources Management, Environmental Sciences, monitoring and evaluation, International Development or other relevant political or social sciences area is required.
    • A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • Work Experience A minimum of 7 years of technical/evaluation experience, including of project planning, management, monitoring and evaluation is required, preferably including evaluating large, regional or global programmes and using a Theory of Change approach. Experience in evaluation of GEF projects is highly desirable.
    • Excellent writing skills, team leadership experience and, where possible, knowledge of the UN system, specifically of the work of UNEP and GEF programming is desirable.
    • Experience in managing partnerships, knowledge management and communication is desirable for all evaluation consultants.

    Terminal Review Consultant: GEF ID 5649 NAMA Mauritius Project

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • The consultant will also lead the Terminal Review design, data collection and analysis, and report-writing.
    • The consultancy will be home-based, and the consultant will work under the direct supervision of the GEF Task Manager (Asia Pacific), Climate Change Mitigation Unit, Climate Change Division, UNEP. More specifically:

    Undertake the inception phase of the review, including:

    • Conduct project desk review and collate information from the project teams
    • Draft the reconstructed Theory of Change of the project
    • Prepare the Terminal Review framework
    • Develop the desk review and interview protocols
    • Draft the survey protocols 5. Plan the Terminal Review schedule

    Prepare the inception report for review to be approved by the Climate Change Mitigation Unit Coordination of the data collection and analysis phase of the Terminal Review, including:

    • Conduct further desk review and in-depth interviews with project implementing and executing agencies, project partners and stakeholders of the project
    • Regularly report back to the Climate Change Mitigation Unit on progress.

    Coordination of the reporting phase, including:

    • Prepare presentation on preliminary findings
    • Draft Main Terminal report ensuring it is consistent with guidelines provide both in substance and style
    • Liaise with the UNEP Climate Change Mitigation Unit on comments received and ensure that comments are considered during finalization of the Main report and approved

    The consultant will undertake the following duties: •

    • Inception Report
    • Desk based review of documents
    • Review Mission 

    Qualifications/Special Skills

    • A Masters degree in energy, environmental sciences, engineering, international development or related area is required.
    • A first level degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience maybe accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
    • A first-level degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree; Experience:
    • A minimum of 5 years of technical / evaluation experience preferably including evaluating large, regional or global programmes and using a Theory of Change approach is required
