    Doctoral Fellow – Actuarial Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Engineering/ Mathematical Economics/ Mathematical Finance

    Basic job summary:

    This position is responsible for the provision of high-quality, relevant learning opportunities which enable students to maximize their educational, vocational, and personal development potential.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Engage in academic research to ensure attainment of a Doctoral degree. Contribute through their research to Strathmore University’s research environment, through presentation of their research work in the various colloquia, conferences and research workshops organized within the University.
    • Keep abreast with developments within the academic discipline or professional practice, and to share this knowledge to shape curriculum content, design of learning materials and delivery methods in line with the University’s standards.
    • Deliver a range of teaching and assessment activities, including tutorials directed towards the delivery of subjects at undergraduate level. Assist in preparing schemes of work and maintaining records to monitor student progress.
    • Ensure timely student assessment through the preparation, moderation, administration and marking of examinations
    • Guide undergraduate students in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development and defense coordination. This will also include assisting in student attachment placement and supervision.
    • Ensure that accurate student records, including registers, reports, student assessment and achievement are updated in the Academic Management System.
    • Participate in the continuous assessment process, using a variety of methods and techniques and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.
    • Conduct student practice sessions, discussion sessions, review sessions and similar activities.
    • Contribute to the school’s programs through participation in activities such as serving in committees, revising curricula, teaching materials and reading lists, and taking on other administrative roles as may be required by the School’s Management Committee.
    • Undertake administrative duties as requested by the Head of Department.

    Minimum Academic Qualifications:

    • Have a master’s degree qualification in relevant field from an accredited and recognized university. Already enrolled or planning to enroll for a PhD course.
    • Relevant professional qualification dependent on area of expertise where applicable

    Required Experience:

    • Relevant working experience
    • Experience in conducting academic research at Master level

    • Engage in academic research and publishing of papers to ensure attainment of relevant publication points from refereed journal papers
    • Provide support for the School’s consultancy initiatives through application of grants and funding, as well as attending, participating and presenting papers in workshops, conferences and professional seminars
    • Responsible for administrative duties in their respective schools such as chairing committees, accompanying students for the trips as and when called upon and organizing conferences.

    School Administrator

    Basic job summary:

    This position is responsible for assisting the School Manager / Program Manager in academic related administrative duties and ensuring the School delivers the required standards for the University’s standards for student learning experience.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Liaise with the admissions office to vet the suitability of potential students through the setting, administering and marking of admission exams. This will also involve admitting the successful students and managing their records in the Academic Management System.
    • Assist the School Manager / Program Manager in generation the school course timetable and circulation of the timetable to lecturers and students. This will also involve making changes to the timetable during the semester where necessary.
    • Facilitate the course evaluation process by generating the course evaluation, supervising the evaluation process, analyzing the data collected and providing a report of the analysis to the Dean.
    • Assist the School Manager / Program Manager in fees payment reconciliation and debt collection through following up with students who have fees arrears.
    • Coordinate the orientation process of new students through course registration, allocation of student mentors and uploading of learning materials in the e-learning platform.
    • Ensure efficient and effective management of all students and lecturers records in the school
    • Assist the School Manager / Program Manager in quality management by updating school procedures and policies in the Academic Management System and monitoring both lecturers and students class attendance and punctuality.
    • Contribute to students discipline by reporting student disciplinary matters to the School Manager / Program manager, the Program Director / Academic Director of the School or the Dean of students.

    Minimum Academic Qualifications:

    Core qualifications

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
    • At least two years relevant administration experience

    Required Experience:

    • At least 2 years’ experience in conducting and publishing research in various publication outlets
    • Skills and experience in use of Mixed Methods (both Qualitative and Quantitative Methods)
    • Experience in use of at least one established statistical data analytic software e.g., SPSS, STATA, etc
