Geographical Information System Analyst - 2 Posts at County Government of Kisumu

Job Purpose:

Manage and analyze geospatial data to support decision-making within the County Government.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collect, acquire, and validate geospatial data from various sources, including remote sensing, surveys, and public datasets.
• Organize, clean, and maintain geospatial databases and ensure data integrity.
• Perform spatial analysis and modeling to extract meaningful insights from geospatial data.
• Create maps and visualizations using GIS software and cartographic principles.
• Develop and execute spatial queries to answer specific questions or solve spatial problems.
• Write scripts or programs to automate repetitive tasks or develop custom GIS applications.
• Design and manage spatial databases, including schema design and optimization.
• Integrate GIS data and tools with other software systems or databases used within the organization.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with relevant standards and protocols.
• Stay updated on the latest GIS technologies, trends, and best practices.
• Identify and resolve issues related to data quality, analysis challenges, and technical glitches in GIS workflows.

Qualifications:

• Academic: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution in Geomatic Engineering, Geospatial
• Engineering, Geo-Information Technology, Land Surveying and Photogrammetry, or equivalent.
• Professional: Graduate member of the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya.
• Skills: Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo), familiarity with programming languages such as Python, understanding of spatial databases (PostgreSQL with PostGIS or SQLite), strong analytical and statistical skills, knowledge of cartographic principles, and familiarity with remote sensing technologies and image processing techniques.
