Geographical Information System Data Assistants - 3 Posts at County Government of Kisumu

Job Purpose:

Execute data standards and guidelines and provide user support to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in processes and procedures. Additionally, consolidate the preparation and custody of geospatial data and information.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Gather geospatial data from various sources, including satellite imagery, field surveys, and public datasets.
• Organize and maintain geospatial datasets, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and proper documentation.
• Process and clean spatial data, including data conversion, transformation, and geo-referencing.
• Create maps and visualizations using GIS software, incorporating data layers and symbology to convey information effectively.
• Perform data quality checks and validation to identify and correct errors or inconsistencies in datasets.
• Assist in spatial analysis tasks such as spatial queries, buffering, interpolation, and overlay operations to extract meaningful information from geospatial data.
• Maintain records of data sources, procedures, and workflows to ensure data traceability and reproducibility.
• Generate reports, summaries, and visualizations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with GIS analysts, cartographers, and other eam members to support geospatial projects.
• Adhere to ethical and legal guidelines regarding data privacy, confidentiality, and licensing when working with geospatial data.

Qualifications:

• At least a Diploma in GIS/Cartography.
• Skills: Demonstrable GIS skills, proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, or other open-source GIS tools),
• strong understanding of spatial concepts and geographical data, strong computer skills including proficiency in data management software, spreadsheet applications, and scripting languages like Python, high attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication skills, and good time management and organizational skills.
