Head of Technology Governance and Controls at Equity Bank Kenya

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable professional to join our Product Department as the Head of Technology Governance and Controls. As the Head of Technology Governance and Controls, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective governance frameworks, policies, and controls to ensure the efficient and secure use of technology within our organization with the guidance of the second line of defense. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, and various oversight entities, to establish and maintain robust technology governance processes.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement technology governance strategies and frameworks that align with organizational goals and industry best practices.
• Define and enforce technology policies and standards across the Product Department to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal requirements.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and prioritize technology risks and controls, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Establish and maintain technology control mechanisms to monitor and assess the effectiveness of technology governance processes.
• Conduct regular pre-audits and assessments to identify control gaps, vulnerabilities, and areas for improvement, and develop action plans to address them.
• Provide guidance and support to product teams on technology governance matters, including data privacy, security, and compliance requirements.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, trends, and regulations relevant to the Product Department, and proactively adapt governance processes accordingly.
• Foster a culture of technology governance and controls awareness and education across the organization through training programs, workshops, and communications.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination of technology governance initiatives.
• Stay informed about the evolving technology landscape and industry best practices to provide strategic recommendations to senior management

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
• Extensive experience (8+ years) in technology governance, risk management, or a similar role, preferably within a product-focused organization.
• Strong understanding of technology governance frameworks, standards, and regulations, such as COBIT, ISO 27001, GDPR, and CCPA.
• Proven track record of designing and implementing effective technology governance processes, controls, and risk management frameworks.
• In-depth knowledge of information security, data privacy, and compliance requirements in the technology industry.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex technology risks and develop practical solutions.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Experience in conducting audits, risk assessments, and control evaluations.
• Professional certifications such as CISA, CISSP, CISM, or CRISC are highly desirable.
• Ability to stay organized, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
