Job Description

The Network Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining the bank's network infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability. This role involves configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting network devices and services, and collaborating with other IT professionals to support the bank’s operations.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

Network Traffic Analysis:

• Monitoring and analysis of network traffic patterns to identify potential issues or inefficiencies. Effective analysis can lead to better network optimization.

User Satisfaction:

• The satisfaction level of users with the network performance and reliability, often measured through surveys. Higher satisfaction indicates better network service quality.

Network Device Health:

• The operational status and performance of network devices (e.g., routers, switches). Higher health scores indicate well-maintained devices.

Service Level Agreement (SLA) Compliance:

• The percentage of network-related SLAs that are met. Higher compliance rates indicate better performance in meeting service commitments.

Configuration Management:

• The effectiveness of managing network configurations, including tracking changes and maintaining up-to-date documentation. Better management indicates more organized and controlled network operations.

Energy Consumption of Network Devices:

• Measures the energy usage of network equipment. Lower energy consumption indicates more sustainable and cost-effective network operations.

Network Audit and Compliance:

• The frequency and results of network audits to ensure compliance with policies and regulations. Better compliance indicates stronger governance and control.

Network Uptime/Availability:

• The percentage of time the network is operational. Higher uptime indicates better network reliability.

Network Latency:

• The average time it takes for data to travel from one point to another on the network. Lower latency indicates a faster and more responsive network.

Packet Loss Rate:

• The percentage of data packets that are lost during transmission. Lower packet loss rates indicate a more reliable network.

Bandwidth Utilization:

• The percentage of available bandwidth being used. Optimal utilization indicates efficient use of network resources.

Key Responsibilities:

Network Management:

• Design, implement, and manage the bank’s network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks.
• Monitor network performance, availability, and security, ensuring high levels of data quality and confidentiality.
• Perform regular network maintenance and upgrades, including firmware updates and patches.

Security and Compliance:

• Implement and maintain network security measures to protect against unauthorized access, malware, and other threats.
• Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments, and take corrective actions as needed.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.

Troubleshooting and Support:

• Diagnose and resolve network issues in a timely manner, minimizing downtime and impact on operations.
• Provide technical support and assistance to staff, resolving network-related problems and providing training as necessary.
• Collaborate with vendors and service providers to ensure reliable network services.

Documentation and Reporting:

• Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, procedures, and changes.
• Generate regular reports on network performance, security incidents, and other relevant metrics.
• Develop and update network policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Project Management:

• Plan and execute network-related projects, including new implementations, upgrades, and expansions.
• Coordinate with other IT team members and departments to ensure successful project delivery.
• Evaluate and recommend new network technologies and solutions to enhance the bank’s infrastructure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED FOR THE JOB)

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in network administration or a similar role.
• Proven experience with network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls) and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
• Experience with network security practices and tools (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs).
• Strong understanding of network architecture and design principles.
• Proficiency in network monitoring and management tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds).

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE (PREFERRED, NOT A REQUIREMENT)

• Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, etc.) are highly desirable.
