    Partnerships Intern

     

    JOB PURPOSE
    The RBN Partnership and Innovation Team provide leadership, expertise, and support to WFP’s regional and country-level positioning, partnering, innovation, and resourcing efforts in Eastern Africa. Enhancing partnerships and exploring new forms of engagement with key stakeholders are critical to achieve WFPs mandate. The unit strengthens the strategic positioning of WFP with partners as an innovative leader in food security and nutrition in Eastern Africa. The team assists COs to; engage strategically with donors, diversify funding streams, nurture traditional donor base and enhance partnerships with emerging donors. It undertakes and provides partnership support to Country Offices on the Integrated Road Map, regional government donor relations, UN and NGO relations, Climate financing, partnership knowledge management, private sector partnerships, and innovations. One of the key components for the 2022-unit work plan is carrying out an aggressive Private Sector resource mobilization outreach strategy and brokering partnerships with these entities to increase our impact and income.

    We are seeking to fill the position of Partnerships Intern b ased in Partnerships and Innovation Unit of the Regional Bureau, Nairobi.

    The intern will provide support to the unit in the private sector sub-team with a focus on mapping, research and partnership opportunities for RBN.

    Standard Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in the university and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies; currently enrolled in a graduate programme (Master's degree) from a recognized university; or have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme within the last 6 months, preferably in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, International Relations, Law, Marketing, Communications, Business Administration or any other relevant field.
    • Currently enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s degree) from a recognized university, undertaking the programmes mentioned above, and have attended classes in the past 12 months,
    • Fluent in English (both oral and written) is a must; knowledge of a second UN language, preferably French, would be an asset.
    • Training and/or experience utilizing computers including word processing, spreadsheet, and other software packages. Proficiency in Excel and fair knowledge of pivot tables. Office 365 proficiency an added advantage

    • Ability to produce high-quality written materials, including graphically based PowerPoint presentations as well as text documents for diverse audiences
    • Ability to interact with leaders and external audiences with maturity and tact
    • Collaborative spirit - able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures and to act with credibility and diplomacy
    • Strong time management skills with an ability to plan ahead, anticipate requirements, problems and obstacles, and an ability to juggle competing priorities successfully, and to work on tight deadlines
    • Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy
    • Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the UN World Food Programme
    • Willing to work in and travel to different field locations and challenging operating environments

    What You Will Do

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive

    • Support RBN’s efforts to increase WFP’s positioning with the private sector through research analysis, communication, advocacy, and visibility.
    • Support the work of RBN on new private sector initiatives as well on engagement with other existing and potential partners.
    • Overall research, data & market analysis on RBN partnership opportunities.
    • Contribute to identifying new private sector partnership opportunities and support RBN’s fundraising efforts.
    • Support in preparation of briefing documents and presentations for internal senior management meetings and external meetings with donors and other stakeholders.
    • Work in collaboration with Partnerships focal point to ensure the flow of information with country offices, other WFP units and external audiences.
    • Support in providing regular information to inform new and potential donors on the strategy, design, relevance, and impact of programmes, to advocate for WFP work.
    • Help with the strategic positioning of WFP in the region by monitoring donor communications, press releases and sharing information on funding opportunities and other important issues with team members and country office colleagues.
    • Perform any other relevant duty/assignment as may be deemed necessary by his/her supervisor or Head of Unit.

    TERMS AND CONDITIONS

    • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP depending on the duty station of assignment (i.e. Nairobi).
    • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas, and related costs.
    • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognized institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
    • The internship duration is 8 months, full-time
