Senior Data Engineer at NCBA Group

Job Purpose Statement

Enterprise Data Management ("EDM") is a process that seeks to ensure Data in NCBA Group PLC is accurate and consistent to meet the strategic and business goals. "EDM" has eight key capabilities 

• Data Architecture (DA)
• Data retention & archiving (DRA)
• Data quality management (DQM)
• Metadata management ("MM"); v) Master data Management (MDM);
• Data privacy & security (DPS)
• Business Intelligence and Analytics (BIA)
• Data governance.

The Senior Data Engineer will lead a team of data engineers to design and deliver data engineering solutions for all stakeholders across the group. The role holder will leverage on strategic planning, business analysis and technical knowledge of data engineering, data warehousing, and data architecture. The role holder will also ensure all the data engineering and analytics environments are available and up to date.

The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for the following:

• Oversee activities of the data engineering team, ensuring proper execution of their duties and alignment with the bank’s objectives.
• Oversee the creation and maintenance of an optimal data pipeline architecture.
• Oversee the design, deployment and maintenance of the data models in line with data warehousing best practices.
• Work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure data engineering activities comply with Data Management, Data Governance, Data Architecture and Data Protection standards and policies.
• Identify, design and implement internal process improvements through automation of manual processes, optimizing data delivery and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability
• Ensure data is extracted accurately and availed on time for all business reporting requirements.

Academic:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or related degree from a recognized university

Desired work experience:

• A minimum of 6 years’ experience in data integration.
• Proven experience (5+ years) writing complex yet efficient, well tested SQL statements and ETL processes
• Experience on Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Elastic, etc is highly desirable
• Development & coding design in parallelized/distributed environments, preferably in cloud environment (AWS / Azure)
