    The Fairmont Norfolk is a historic hotel in Nairobi, Kenya and is owned by the luxury hotel chain, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. The hotel has 170 rooms, 4 restaurants, and consists of 5 main blocks, each ranging from 1 to 2 stories high.     Director of Operations

    What you will be doing:

    Reporting to the General Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

    • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
    • Support the General Manager in the overall management and strategic direction of the hotel.
    • Oversee all operational functions of the hotel
    • Lead and support all departments in the achievement of their financial and operational targets through establishment of a positive culture, clear expectations, and policy & procedural implementation
    • Assist in the preparation, presentation and subsequent achievement of the hotel's annual Operating Budget.
    • Ensure that monthly financial outlooks are on time, on target and accurate
    • Ensure full compliance to hotel operating controls and enhance the service quality and delivery to the next level
    • Actively involved in the recruitment process of all positions within the hotel
    • Follow department policies, procedures and service standards
    • Drive Quality, Managers and Green engagement monthly meetings
    • Assist in staff planning and the maintenance of productivity levels.
    • Follow all safety policies 
    • Other duties as assigned

    Your experience and skills include:

    • Minimum of 10 years hospitality experience with 5 years’ experience at the Executive Committee level
    • Extensive Hotel operations experience required
    • Demonstrated knowledge of budget planning and financial controls
    • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities
    • Highly responsible & reliable
    • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
    • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, always remaining calm and courteous
    • Proven record to coordinate multiple departments
    • Clear working knowledge of budget planning and execution
    • Exceptional interpersonal and guest relation skills
    • Proven team-builder with outstanding coaching skills
    • Clearly demonstrated ability to be innovative, creative and able to think outside the box
    • Ability to motivate developing leaders to act as entrepreneurs while innovating guest-oriented solutions creatively and profitably
    • Degree in hospitality management or university equivalent

    Assistant Food & Beverage Manager

    What you will be doing:

    • Assists in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training and evaluating staff members
    • Continually strive to develop the employees including Outlet Managers in all areas of managerial and professional development
    • Assist in conduct conflict resolution and corrective actions and coaching of staff
    • Manages and monitors product quality and guest satisfaction in all outlets
    • Ensure all equipment is kept clean and in excellent condition through personal inspection and by following the hotel’s preventative maintenance programs
    • Investigates and resolves guest complaints in a timely manner 
    • Present an enchanting, professional and attractive image to further the overall theme of the property
    • Assist in budgeting process and P&L reports
    • Assist Food & Beverage Manager in achieving the departmental goals, revenue targets and controlling the departmental expenditure
    • Support sponsorship and partners in promotions of special events and product marketing
    • Moves to all outlets to visually monitor and take corrective action to ensure food quality and service standards are met Responsible for ensuring that food quality is consistent, appealing, and prepared to guest specifications
    • Provides guidance for improvement and implements necessary adjustments. Interacts with guests to obtain feedback on quality of service and food in outlet
    • Follows company standards of hospitality by making eye contact with every guest, smiling and offering a warm and friendly greeting
    • Be a brand advocate by providing guests with accurate information regarding our venues, menus, pricing and future events.
    • Build and promote teamwork through proactive interaction
    • Fully understand and comply with all regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements
    • Documents inventory forecast usage and monitors supply so that outlets are stocked with linen, glassware, silverware, china, condiments and other items necessary to provide appropriate customer service.

    Your experience and skills include:

    • Previous experience in a similar role is required
    • Degree in Hospitality Management or related field
    • Service focused personality is essential and a passion for everything food and beverage
