    Human Resource Intern

    Vacancy Code (HRI-24) (1 Position)

    • This position will be reporting to the Human Resource Officer of the University.

    Job Purpose:

    • This position exists to provide administrative, HR and logistical supportin all end-toend HR and Admin functions in a manner that contributes to the development of a customer service-oriented culture that values proactivity, continuous improvement, innovation, and high performance.

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Support all HR logistics including required paperwork, venues, office hospitality, for interviews, events, meetings etc.
    • Facilitation of employee clearance and follow-up of final dues to be paid.
    • Preparing certificates of employment to exiting staff.
    • Process HR requisitions end to end in a timely and effective manner.
    • Timely and effective maintenance of physical staff files and circulation of HR and Admin correspondence and documentations.
    • Conducting reference checks for successful candidates.
    • Sending regret letters to unsuccessful candidates.
    • Maintain and facilitate high standards for orientation & induction and all inhouse and external training.
    • Ensure 100% compliance of HR files to the local law and minimum standards set by AIU.
    • Drafting reports and making presentations and doing written recommendations.
    • Coordinating staff recruitment and selection process to ensure a timely, organized, and comprehensive procedure is used to hire staff.
    • Data entry and clean up on the ERP system. 
    • Any other duties as assigned from time to time.

    Requirements: Qualifications and Experience

    • A recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Sciences or a related field with a minimum of 1-year experience. 
    • CHRP qualifications/Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management and IHRM membership are an added advantage. 
    • The candidate must be honest and a team player.
    • Must have a good understanding and practical knowledge of the various employment laws. 
    • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple and conflicting priorities, and meet deadlines.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Computer literate in MS office suites i.e. Word, Excel, and Power Point.
    • Able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
    • Enthusiasm for HR, eager to learn and adapt in a university environment.

    Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic Affairs and Research

     Vacancy Code DVCAA&R – 2024

    The Deputy Vice Chancellor (AA & R) is head of the Academic division in the university responsible for Academic affairs, Research and Student Affairs. He/she is also the deputy to the Vice Chancellor and will be responsible for strategic leadership of the division and will be answerable to the Vice Chancellor. He/She shall be charged with the supervision of Deans of Schools, Registrar (Academic Affairs), Dean of Students, Director of ISAR, Director of ODEL, University Librarian and the Senior Admin Officer – DVCAA&R’s office.

    For appointment to the position of a Deputy Vice Chancellor (AA & R) of AIU, a candidate must:

    • Be a Full Professor or an Associate Professor and holder of an earned Doctorate degree or equivalent qualification from a University recognized in Kenya;
    • Have had at least twelve (12) years of academic, research and managerial experience at a senior level in a University or equivalent institution with demonstrable leadership and management capacity such as having served as a university campus Principal or a Dean of a school/faculty or other senior managerial position for at least 5 years.
    • Have proven scholarly and research record demonstrated by publications in internationally peer reviewed journals, monographs, and books in their areas of specialization, and supervision and mentorship of Masters and Doctoral students; iv. Have excellent understanding of university financial policies, strategic planning, Human Resource Management and Procurement processes;
    • Have clear knowledge in the structural, legislative and regulatory framework for administering University Education in Kenya, as well as excellent understanding of current local and global trends in University education and training and the factors and conditions shaping development of university education;
    • Demonstrated record of leadership, in formulation and implementation of academic, administrative, and planning programs, development of strategic institutional and industry linkages.
    • Have experience in networking, partnerships, and resource mobilization for research, scholarships, and development, and be a team player with excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
    • Be a registered member of professional association/s, where applicable, and be of good standing with a clean disciplinary record in public and/or private sectors; and be of high ethical standards, integrity, and accountability.
    • Be a born-again Evangelical Christian who is active in the local Church;

    Expanded responsibilities

    • Be responsible for the academic affairs of the University with direct oversight of the faculty, curricula, and quality of programs;
    • Responsible for the development and implementation of sound academic policies, control and procedures that ensure the realization of its mission and objectives.
    • Lead continuous planning regarding all academic matters, including new programs.
    • Prepare and monitor the academic affairs division budget.
    • Promote Christian Faith- and- Learning Integration in all aspects of AIU.
    • Give leadership in matters of accreditation and government approvals.
    • Cultivate healthy communication and interaction among students, teaching and non-teaching staff and management.
    • Be a member of the management committee and senate and serve on other appropriate committees by virtue of office.
    • Chair the Deans committee.
    • Monitor and maintain high standards in all programmes and ensure compliance with accrediting agencies’ requirements as well as internal quality assurance provisions and standards.
    • Cultivate a missional research culture and integration of faith, learning, and life.
    • Promote strategic academic partnerships globally.
    • Be responsible for special university-wide academic projects and events.
    • Coordination of student affairs.
    • Coordinate the preparation of syllabus and regulations, and examinations.
    • Perform other duties from time to time as may be assigned by the Vice-Chancellor.

    Personal attributes and skills

    • Have excellent PR and good negotiation skills with faculty and students.
    • Be ICT competent and able to operate in a digital environment
    • High competency in oral and written communication.
    • Capacity for vision casting, as well as planning, development, and implementation.
    • Cultivate and lead (encourage and empower) the staff team.
    • Skilled in leading networks and working collaboratively with regional association leaders.
    • Have a good record of cross-cultural experience with demonstratable relational and social skills for working in an international and multi-cultural learning community.
    • Have a reputable track record as a leader of integrity, team player, and committed to collegial, consultative approach to decision making.
