    Record to Report Analyst

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the Financial Shared Services Department of the Finance Division. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.            
    • Reporting to the Record to Report Team Lead, the role holder will be responsible for general accounting and internal control support in line with IFRS including preparation of journal entries, maintenance of Chart of accounts, completion of the month end closing process and ensuring that the general ledger account balances and trial balances are appropriately reconciled as per the company policy for both Safaricom and its subsidiaries. Additionally, they should assure delivery of services as defined in the Service Level Agreement (SLA) /KPI’s applicable for the role.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Below are the key skills and competencies required to be successful in this role:

    Accounting Expertise:

    • Proficiency in preparing and posting journal entries for a parent company and its subsidiaries.
    • In-depth knowledge of month-end closing activities, including general ledger finalization, maintaining close schedules, and making materiality decisions on closing entries.
    • Expertise in validating and reporting revenue accurately for the organization and its subsidiaries.
    • Consistently upskilling on best practice in accounting processes and accounting systems

    Financial Reporting and Data Integrity:

    • Strong focus on ensuring data quality and integrity in financial reporting to stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in maintaining and analysing standard chart of accounts and performing timely account reconciliations.
    • Managing intercompany accounting modules and related entries effectively.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other analytical tools such as Power BI and Qlik Sense to enable accurate and efficient examination of and interpretation of financial data 

    Compliance and Regulatory Knowledge:

    • Comprehensive understanding of IFRS 16 for proper accounting of leases.
    • Proper management of accruals and prepayments, including control of related schedules.
    • Effectively revaluating foreign currency denominated balances.

    Payroll Accounting:

    • Accurately and effectively recording payroll journal entries and reconciling payroll expenses for accuracy.

    ERP Systems and Integration:

    • Ensuring seamless integration of new products through end-to-end mapping to guarantee transaction completeness, timeliness, and accuracy in ERP systems.
    • Ability to work with financial systems (knowledge of Oracle E Business Suite and Hyperion)

    Process Improvement and Efficiency:

    • Commitment to continuously seeking and implementing process improvements in Record-to-Report (R2R) processes to enhance efficiencies.

    Behavioural Competencies:

    • Shared Service Center Performance: Ability to work cooperatively with team members to ensure the Shared Service Center meets or exceeds performance standards.
    • Ability to provide strong financial decision support to the business
    • Able to take a holistic view of the business with a financial focus
    • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
    • High level experience and skills working with stakeholders

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience & Education you should possess:

    • A graduate with a degree in a financial field
    • Recognized accounting qualification (CPA (K), ACCA, etc.) and a member of a professional body
    • Relevant post-graduate education is an added advantage.
    • Have at least 4 years’ experience in Finance
    • Previous experience working in reporting function necessary.
    • Strong, proven accounting acumen

    Senior Manager/ Lead- Wholesale Services

    • Reporting to the Tribe Lead – Enterprise Solutions, the role holder will be required to identify and enhance all key opportunities to grow Wholesale Transit, Data Center & Colocation business and develop robust framework for Wholesale Infrastructure. In addition, the role holder will grow & develop Wholesale IP Transit business and Tower Colocation business. Further to this, the role holder will develop partnerships and alliances to enhance capacity and seize wholesale opportunities and negotiate & effectively monitor capacity & Infrastructure costs & assets.
    • The role holder will also be expected to develop a data center commercialization and sales strategy, Manage Key relations & partnerships and represent the business at key networking events regionally & internationally

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Develop Robust framework for Wholesale Infrastructure

    • Carry out a SWOT analysis to identify potential areas of new business.
    • Track and note various business models being used regionally and internationally to develop and growth wholesale sales.
    • Carry out extensive research and market intelligence to identify new opportunities for growth of revenues.
    • The framework should include clear decision milestones for review of the wholesale rates and their implications on the business.
    • Document a clear roadmap with the necessary SWOT implications built in that will inform the business and drive its wholesale sales strategy.

    Growing Mobile Wholesale Business 

    • Track and monitor on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis revenue growth against set budgetary targets
    • Develop a well thought out wholesale commercial model framework that ensures regulatory compliance while optimizing wholesale opportunities for the business.
    • Develop effective business case that clearly justify investment potential for new infrastructure opportunities.
    • Monitor and track product pricing both locally and international for similar infrastructure products.
    • Minimize revenue leakage due to under-reporting and incomplete recognition of revenue

    Growing Fibre Wholesale & IP Ttransit Business   

    • Track and monitor on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis revenue growth against set budgetary targets.
    • Develop a well thought out wholesale commercial model framework that ensures regulatory compliance while optimizing wholesale opportunities for the business.
    • Develop effective business case that clearly justify investment potential for new fibre opportunities.
    • Monitor and track product pricing both locally and international for similar fibre products.
    • Minimize revenue leakage due to under-reporting and incomplete recognition of revenue.

     Growing Tower Business   

    • Track and monitor on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis revenue growth against set budgetary targets.
    • Develop a well thought out wholesale commercial model framework that ensures regulatory compliance while optimizing Tower opportunities for the business.
    • Develop effective business case that clearly justify investment potential for new infrastructure opportunities.
    • Monitor and track product pricing both locally and international for similar Tower products.
    • Minimize revenue leakage due to under-reporting and incomplete recognition of revenue.

    Infrastructure Costs & Assets 

    • Carry out detailed analysis to establish which is more effective-leasing or buying key Infrastructure assets, including data centers
    • Develop robust and insightful business cases that help demonstrate the more effective cost strategy.
    • Ensure quality is not compromised for on data and is a key compliment in optimizing the cost framework.
    • Institute a clear framework for mitigating fraud by liaising effectively with internal stakeholders and developing complementary tools that proactively mitigate fraud.

    Manage Key relations & partnerships 

    • Prepare and maintain an effective annual calendar that optimize the relationships with various carriers and enhances competition.
    • Develop an effective framework for monitoring effective partnerships.
    • Explore new partnership opportunities that create opportunities for growth.

    Attend Key networking events   

    • Identify and plan for all known key events touching on carrier business
    • Attend at least one key networking event annually.
    • Document and implement learnings for the benefit for the business.

    Supervisory                   

    • Recruit, develop and retain people with outstanding skills, qualifications and potential.
    • Performance management and identification of training needs
    • Build talent by identifying and developing new leaders for the respective environment.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • A graduate in technology, business/commerce or related field 
    • Proven experience of over 10 years in leadership, managing commercial and product teams in Telecommunications,  with a solid understanding of the local, regional and international wholesale/carrier business and market
