    Security and Safety Officer

    JOB OBJECTIVE

    • The position holder shall be responsible for protecting KCA University assets against threats and possible risks through proactive security initiatives that are in line with the existing university policies and procedures.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Oversee security and safety operations on the town campus, including management of events and special assignments.
    • Implement security measures as stipulated in the University security plan.
    • Manage access control procedures on the campus, including searches, vetting of visitors, and issuance of gate passes to persons and vehicles.
    • Ensure accurate and timely reporting and booking of security incidents in the Occurrence Book.
    • Generate weekly and monthly reports on all security threats on the university assets and infrastructure.
    • Conduct internal investigations and recommend measures to the management.
    • Coordinate the monitoring of the CCTV and conduct inspections within the entire university campus.
    • Supervise, coach and mentor outsourced security personnel to ensure vigilance and effective performance of duties as stipulated in the contracts and operating procedures.
    • Coordinate the maintenance of fire safety equipment to ensure compliance with the maintenance schedules in line with OSH standards.
    • Conduct security and safety audits within the campus and submit recommendations to management.
    • Ensure proper key management – movement and clear chain of custody.
    • Liaison with government law enforcement and other security stakeholders to enhance security measures in the campus.
    • Gather intelligence on potential security threats and disseminate updates to management.
    • Conduct security and safety awareness in the campus.
    • Coordinate evacuation procedures in case of an emergency.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree in Criminology or Security management from a recognized university in Kenya.
    • Military or paramilitary training as a Non-Commissioned Officer
    • Basic investigation course from a recognized institution
    • Certified first aider and firefighter.
    • Member of a registered professional security organization

    WORK EXPERIENCE

    • At least 6 years’ relevant working experience in security and safety in a busy corporate or government organization.
    • Experience in a University or educational institution setup, specifically in a security role, is an added advantage.

    • Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality
    • Possess investigative and report-writing skills
    • Computer literate
    • Clear understanding of data protection law
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to work for long hours

    Cook – Training Cafeteria

    JOB OBJECTIVE

    • The cook in the student training cafeteria shall be responsible for food preparation, cooking, and assembly of menu items according to established recipes and guidelines. The job holder shall be a master trainer to apprentice cooks, supervise kitchen operations, and in conjunction with the trainers facilitate experiential learning.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Food Preparation: assembling ingredients for recipes according to the menus. Follow standardized recipes and portion control guidelines to ensure consistency in flavour and presentation.
    • Cooking: prepare a variety of menu items using cooking techniques such as grilling, blanching, sautéing, baking, frying, and boiling observing all standards to achieve optimal results.
    • Menu Execution: Work collaboratively with the head chef to ensure the timely and accurate execution of menu items during meal service periods.
    • Mentorship: Lead demonstrations and practical cooking sessions to teach trainees how to prepare a variety of dishes
    • Food Safety: Follow proper procedures for storing, handling, and labelling food products, as well as cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment and workstations.
    • Quality Control: Conduct quality checks on prepared food items to verify freshness, taste, and appearance.
    • Cleaning and Maintenance: supervise support staff in cleaning tasks and kitchen maintenance duties, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of kitchen waste.
    • Continuous Improvement: Seek opportunities to enhance menu offerings, streamline kitchen operations, and improve overall efficiency
    • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by delivering well-prepared meals with a positive attitude and attention to detail.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Certificate in food and beverage production or its equivalent
    • Minimum 2 years of experience working as a cook in a commercial kitchen
    • Prior experience in the preparation of executive cuisines
    • Knowledge in preparation of multicultural meals
    • Ability to work in a fast-food cafeteria
    • Valid food handlers’ certificate

    Head Chef – Training Cafeteria

    JOB OBJECTIVE

    • The chef in the student training cafeteria shall be responsible for mentoring and developing culinary talent among trainee students. The primary role will be providing hands-on training, guidance, and support to trainee chefs and cooks, helping them refine their culinary skills and reach their full potential.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Culinary Training: Provide instruction on basic cooking techniques, knife skills, food safety practices, and kitchen etiquette.
    • Skill Development: Mentor and coach cafeteria trainees, providing ongoing support and feedback to trainers to ensure quality and consistency
    • Recipe Demonstration: Lead demonstrations and practical cooking sessions to teach trainees how to prepare various dishes
    • Menu Execution: Assist in the creation of student cafeteria menus that are appealing, nutritious, and meet budgetary requirements.
    • Kitchen Management: Monitor trainee performance and adherence to food safety protocols to maintain a safe and hygienic workspace.
    • Prudent management: ensure proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment as well as portion control
    • Team leadership: Supervise kitchen staff, including cooks, prep cooks, and kitchen assistants, providing guidance, training, and feedback as needed
    • Professional Development: Stay up-to-date on current culinary trends and best practices for University cafeteria meals
    • Safety standards and compliance: Maintain a clean and organized workspace under health and safety regulations.
    • Customer service: Enforce excellence in service delivery, offer high-quality food and create feedback mechanism for the patrons

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Diploma in food and beverage production or its equivalent
    • Minimum 3 years of experience working as a chef in a professional kitchen
    • Prior experience training and mentoring culinary staff (preferred)
    • Ability to work in a fast-food cafeteria
    • Valid food handlers certificate
