    ALP Teachers

    ALP Teachers Job Responsibilities

    • Deliver lessons and organize learning activity sessions in the subject of specialization.
    • Together with the senior ALP teachers, prepare the learning scheme of work and required lesson plans
    • Keep records of student’ attendance, progress and assessment.
    • Prepare and administer continuous assessment tests and internal examinations to assess learners’ progress and knowledge assimilation
    • Together the senior ALP teachers submit evaluations, attendance sheets and monthly reports to the Center leader.
    • Ensure availability of all the necessary teaching aids and materials in liaison with the senior ALP teachers
    • Remain up to date on pedagogical methods and ensure a child-friendly environment where each child’s need are identified and addressed.
    • Monitor and support each learner and inform students of their progress.
    • Maintain good communications with parents concerning the progress of their children.
    • Any other duties that may be given by supervisor.

    Qualifications for ALP Teachers Job

    • Have five years of teaching experience in Primary School
    • Hold P1 Certificate/Education or recognized two-year Diploma in two of the following subjects: English, Kiswahili, Somali, Science,
    • Mathematics, Social Studies or Islamic or Christian Religious Education. (Note the selected candidates will over all teaching subjects apart from language and religious studies).
    • High level of personal integrity, cultural awareness & sensitivity.
    • High standard of English methodology including oral skills and teaching English to speakers of other languages.

    Personal Qualities

    • Experience in Mentoring.
    • Having simple individual counseling and conflict resolution skills
    • Keen in ensuring accuracy and precision in all his/her works with attention to detail.
    • Goal oriented, with ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision.
    • Ability to work and live in a generally insecure and harsh environment
    • Excellent communication skills, flexible, readily adaptable to new challenges and approaches.
    • Knowledge and experience of special needs education and practice a plus factor.

    Project Assistant

    Project Assistant Job Responsibilities

    • Support the design of ICLA information campaigns including in the context of the voluntary repatriation exercise.
    • Support the development of information, education and communication (IEC) materials/brochures on HLP, legal identity and HLP and their translation into local languages.
    • Organize and ensure the timely implementation of information campaigns under projects for use in the local media including radio stations and TV talk shows and in group information sessions conducted by ICLA to raise awareness of refugees rights, entitlements and responsibilities.
    • Support the development of targeted HLP training materials for humanitarian actors and local actors including UN agencies, INGOs, national/local NGOs and refugee leadership.
    • Support HLP training sessions and ensure lessons learned are documented for future training.
    • Support relevant M&E process for designated project activities under approved project work plan.
    • Support the preparation and compilation of weekly, monthly and mid-term report.
    • Any other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

    Qualifications for Project Assistant Job

    • University degree in law, political science, social science or other relevant discipline.
    • Diploma with experience will be considered.
    • Minimum 3 years humanitarian experience with refugees/internally displaced persons (IDPs) at field level with an NGO or other international organization.
    • Experience working as a Project Assistant in a humanitarian/recovery context
    • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
    • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
    • Knowledge of English and knowledge of Somali is an asset.

    Personal qualities

    • Ability to identify vulnerable groups e.g. women at risk, elderly etc…
    • Ability to work under pressure, establish priorities and plan, coordinate own work plan, use time efficiently and apply judgement in the context of competing deadlines.
    • Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity
    • Excellent oral/communication skills and ability to articulate ideas in a clear and accurate manner including the ability to prepare and edit a variety of written documents, reports and briefs.
    • Impartiality.
    • Experience of legal assistance activities and awareness raising campaigns.
    • Knowledge of the political and security situation in Somalia.

    We offer

    • Duty station: Dadaab
    • Contract period is up to December 2016 with possibility of extension.
    • Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions, The candidate will observe NRC’s code of conduct and working hours for the NRC Office in Dadaab.
