    Public Relations Officer

    About this role

    At Komaza, we believe forming deep, long-lasting relationships with our farmer communities is critical to our ability to deliver impact. As our Public Relations Officer, you will be responsible for building strong connections with local government officials and other community opinion leaders over the decade-long lifecycle of our tree farms. The ideal candidate will be an extremely effective communicator, energized by social interaction and networking in rural communities. A deep desire for ownership, hard & fast work, as well as the ability to thrive under scrappy conditions are a must.

    Responsibilities for the Public Relations Officer Job

    • Build and manage informational, consultory and collaborative relationships with government officials throughout Kilifi County.

    • Understand structures and roles of county and locally-based national government bodies, and provide advice on best engagement and collaborative opportunities.

    • Engage and build relationships with diverse local opinion leaders, ranging from key village elders to school headmasters and prominent community leaders.

    • Attend and represent Komaza at local government events and offices, and civil society or other community-based organizations events.

    • Engage local government officials during farmer enrollment and other key farmer engagement activities.

    • Plan and implement community-based events

    Public Relations Officer Job Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

    • 3+ years work experience working with external stakeholders and government officials

    • Passion for Komaza’s mission to lift rural farmers out of poverty through the rapid scaling of our microforestry model

    • Strong familiarity with the communities where we plant; you have lived or worked in rural low-income communities

    • Supreme organisational, critical thinking, and communications skills with impeccable spoken and written English

    • Flexible and scrappy with the drive to do whatever necessary to get the job done

    • Self-directed and intellectually curious – you know how and when to seek feedback in the pursuit of continuous improvement

    • Growth-obsessed with a strong desire for personal development

    • A collaborative problem solver who seeks the opinions of other teammates and departments in the development of creative and sustainable systems

    Lead Communications Designer

    About this role

    Communications play a critical role in our ability to build strong, long-lasting relationships with our farmers. As Lead Communications Designer, you will be responsible for delivering the form and content of all of our farmer materials through both direct development and creative direction of a team comprised of internal and consulting associates. This role reports to and works closely with the Director of Farmer Relations.

    Responsibilities for the Lead Communications Designer Job

    • Develop a communications strategy for materials addressing each stage of our farmer engagement activities.

    • Research, create, test, and constantly improve communications supporting our presentations to farmer communities.

    • Lead design research to develop archetypes and style guides for each stakeholder in our farming communities.

    • Design and lead farmer focus groups and surveys in the pursuit of constant improvement

    • Run point on developing communications tools required to address urgent field issues

    • Observe farmer meetings and provide feedback to field-based communications officers on their delivery and make informed, iterative improvements to Komaza’s communication materials.

    • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, graduate degrees preferred

    • 5+ years relevant experience including extensive experience in program management, communications, marketing, community relations and ethnographic research with a reputed brand or agency

    Harvest Foreman

    About this role

    As a Harvest Foreman for Komaza, you will join a fast-growing organization that is redefining forestry in Africa. By managing your team and resources effectively, you will be a key member of our operations team and driver of quality and continuous improvement for our farmers. This role is fast-paced and challenging, requiring a hard work, multi-tasking, scrappiness and excellent communications skills.

    Responsibilities for the Harvest Foreman Job

    • Lead by example: you must understand and fully participate in all aspects of the harvesting process, doing whatever it takes to get the job done

    • Support operations across the entire harvesting and processing value chain: inventory, felling, transport, storage and processing

    • Build a harvesting work plan for all upcoming harvest activities to ensure precise timing and resource scheduling for you and your team

    • Coordinate and motivate in-field harvesting team of 8+ people, including Chainsaw Operator, Harvest Data Clerk, Extractors and Casuals

    • Quality Control: Closely manage concurrent activities on a single farm at a given time. Ensure work is being performed according to company procedure and to the quality standards required

    • Continuous Improvement: Be able to identify and suggest solutions to inefficiency in the harvest process in order to constantly increase productivity

    • Maintain company communication via phone and email, attend meetings punctually and as a participant

    Harvest Foreman Job Qualifications

    • 5 years’ relevant work experience, ideally 2 years supervising a field-based team.

    • Proven experiencing managing a field-based team of at least 8 people, including daily work planning, coordination of tasks, efficient & responsible resource management, and performance management

    • Form 4 leavers certificate

    • Passion for Komaza’s mission to lift rural farmers out of poverty through the rapid scaling of our microforestry model

    • Strong familiarity with the communities where we plant; you have lived or worked in rural low-income communities

    • Supreme organisational, critical thinking, and communications skills with impeccable spoken and written English

    • Flexible and scrappy with the drive to do whatever necessary to get the job done

    • Self-directed and intellectually curious – you know how and when to seek feedback in the pursuit of continuous improvement
