    Customer Growth Intern

    Job description

    AMI is looking for an ambitious and talented Customer Growth Intern (younger than 29 years) to join our team in Johannesburg, South Africa as we expand our portfolio of entrepreneurs in Southern Africa and across East Africa. S/he will report to the Business Development Manager as part of the Sales & Marketing Team. 

    The successful candidate will be a key player in a dynamic, international team focused obsessively on results, specifically helping to grow AMI’s community of customers. We work hard, innovate constantly and have fun. S/he must be a driven self-starter; a tech-savvy professional with fantastic people and communication skills, they must also have great project management skills as well as the ability to empathize with customer needs and persuasively offer solutions. 

    The Customer Growth Intern will focus on building and managing AMI’s portfolio of entrepreneurs. This will include both businesses as well as partner organisation (intermediaries such as business associations). 

    This is a great opportunity for candidates with a passion for learning and entrepreneurship to play a part in Africa’s transformation. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    Growth & Customer Recruitment

    • Recruit entrepreneurs and businesses into the AMI Survive to Thrive (Grow Your Business) 12-month programme

    • Achieve and surpass growth targets 

    • Build relationships with entrepreneurs; seek to understand their needs and help them select a solution

    • Identify and generate leads through networking, events, and business associations

    • Manage the full growth cycle including prospecting, contacting, nurturing and closing deals

    • Work closely with the rest of the Growth & Marketing Team to develop and improve strategies

    Event management

    • Organize, project manage, and run effective marketing events

    • Recruit participants and interested groups for AMI informational events

    • Post-event follow-up for programme registration

    • Database management

    Client Management

    • Maintain relationship with clients throughout the programme to ensure great customer experience

    • Develop and implement a referral system with customers

    • Upsell other AMI products to programme alumni

    Marketing

    • Conduct market research and analyze related data

    • Contribute to the planning of social media campaigns

    • Execute digital marketing campaigns and manage social media accounts

    • Employ marketing analytics techniques to gather important data (social media, web analytics, rankings etc.) with the support of the Sales and Marketing team

    • Prepare and deliver marketing presentations

    • Contribute towards the development of content by composing content for the company’s website and social media accounts

    • Write marketing literature to augment the company’s presence in the market

    SKILLS:

    • Proven success in consultative sales and B2C business development

    • Proven success in organizing and running both events and programmes

    • Clear and effective communicator – both written and verbal

    • Digital marketing skills to design, build and measure effective digital campaigns

    • The drive and tenacity to meet sales targets

    • Ability to identify and help solve problems for potential clients with a key focus on entrepreneurs

    • Ability to generate new leads and relationships and systematically convert those leads into deals

    • Ability to negotiate pricing and contracts with B2C clients

    • A commitment to AMI’s values of excellence, innovation and accountability

    • Strong people skills

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Undergraduate degree or diploma from an accredited university or tertiary institution

    • Strong knowledge of digital marketing strategy, tactics, analytics and sales funnel management

    • Knowledge of processes for brand communications management, business development experience, specifically selling directly to consumers (B2C)

    • Documented success managing a full sales cycle

    • Direct experience working on client accounts in education management / business services industry

    • Exposure to organizing sales & marketing events

    • Exposure to writing business documents such as marketing collateral – emails etc.

    • Exposure working on client accounts in education management / business services industry

    • Exposure to using Active Campaign or any other CRM system
