    Senior Principal Librarian: DPP 5

    REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT
    For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:

    • Served for three (3) years at the level of Principal Librarian DPP 6 OR in a comparable and relevant position in the Public or Private Sector for a minimum period of three (3) years;
    • A Bachelor's degree in library and information science or information studies or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
    • Postgraduate qualification in library and information science or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
    • Membership to an association of Library or Information Professionals;
    • Master's degree in Library and Information Science or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
    • Demonstrated professional competence and administrative capabilities in work performance and results; and
    • Meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya zoro; Integrity, Honesty and Accountability.

    NOTE: Possession of a Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks froma recognized institution will be an added advantage.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIE.S

    The duties and responsibilities at this level will include:

    • Monitoring and evaluating the implementation ofthe library policies, strategies and programmes;
    • Coordinating preservation, conservation and management of information resources;
    • Coordinating indexing and Abstracting ofJournal Articles;
    • Coordinating the selection and acquisition of information and other research information resources;
    • Overseeing compliance with the relerant international standards;
    • Coordinating delelopment of library workplans and budgets;
    • Coordinating library user education activities;
    • Coordinating the preparation of catalogues, abstracts and classifications of information resources;
    • Maintaining the library Information Management System;
    • Coordinating information search and retrieval from the library and online databases;
    • Coordinating librarl' networking and resource sharing initiatives;
    • Developing, implementation and review of user surveys and analysis tools;
    • Organizing the establishment and implementation of ODPP digital repository;
    • Providing input in writing proposals for library programmes and research projects;
    • Research information sources and resources to enhance the availability of relevant information;
    • Participating in relerant committees to support the implementation of the ODPP mandate;
    • Mentoring, coaching, training and developing of staff in the division; and
    • Monitoring performance management in the division.
