    Social Media Intern

    About the role:

    • The Social Media Intern will work closely with the Social Media Manager to manage the communities on social media platforms. This may span posting content, responding to comments and DMs, providing feedback on our audience’s comments, and brainstorming with the team on ways to develop the latest content. As Shamiri grows, we want to grow our online audience and effectively engage our community. The Social Media Intern will contribute to engaging our online audience across the social media landscape. 

    Roles and responsibilities:

    • Monitor and respond to all DMs and comments in social media feeds.
    • Participate in the creation of social media campaigns to increase engagement and target new audiences.
    • Be actively aware of and involved in online trends positioning Shamiri Institute in accordance with our brand guidelines.
    • Analysing social media numbers frequently and gathering audience feedback to share with the larger Communications team.
    • Carry out research for team projects.
    • Actively share suggestions on how to grow our channels and further engage and grow our communities.

    Who we're looking for:

    • We are looking for an individual with a proven ability to manage content creation and audience engagement for social media platforms particularly X and LinkedIn. Ideal candidates should have an ability to populate social media reports and analyze numbers while understanding the pulse of online Kenyan communities (ex. KOT) and social media trends.

    Shamiri Pre-Texts Facilitator

    • Shamiri Pre-Texts Facilitators are recent high-school graduates trained to deliver Pre-Texts, an innovative art-literacy intervention without prior formal training. This unique approach uses text – an extract from a novel, a physics lesson, or a technical manual – as a source of inspiration for making art. This is followed by group reflection on the process of interpretation through art-making. We are seeking self-motivated individuals to join this class of Pre-Texts Facilitators.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Delivering intervention activities by facilitating group sessions.
    • Observing punctuality on all matters that concern Shamiri. 
    • Attending supervision meetings as communicated. 
    • Recording group sessions attendance. 
    • Reporting to the supervisors any information necessary promptly.  
    • Acting, with supervision, to help ensure participant confidentiality, health, and safety. 

    Requirements

    • A minimum of KCSE Grade C. 
    • Aged between 18-22 years. 
    • Demonstrate the ability to recognize and reflect on one’s own values, attitudes, beliefs, biases, emotions, and past experiences.
    • Demonstrate interest in helping others and ensuring their confidentiality, fair treatment, safety, and wellbeing. 
    • Demonstrate commitment to the broad scope of values, ethics, and goals at the height of the Shamiri mission. 
    • Possess strong communication skills and attention to detail.
    • Possess time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills

    Community and Events Manager

    About the role:

    • The Community and Events Manager will work closely with the Director of Communications and Chief of Staff, to cultivate and sustain community at Shamiri while delivering high-quality events. This may encompass developing of comprehensive Shamiri alumni groups on appropriate platforms, providing database of job opportunities outside of Shamiri, organizing events, and leading shadowing programs. Outside of the community role, the Community and Events Manager will also be involved with planning, coordinating, and executing a diverse range of events and initiatives that fit with the organization's mission. This includes assisting with organizing our annual Shamiri Summit, quarterly in-house events, and ad-hoc events with funders and other relevant stakeholders over the course of the calendar year. 

    Roles and responsibilities:

    • Evaluating the current community offering for Shamiri caregivers outside of their jobs.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive events calendar for Shamiri Institute caregivers that includes graduation events at hub level, networking events, career events.
    • Build out and maintain appropriate systems that foster a sense of community. This may include Discord, WhatsApp communities, or other agreed upon platforms.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive events calendar to foster positive relationships with key stakeholders including but not limited to beneficiaries, government, funders, and other mental health organizations.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to identify event goals, target audiences, and key messages, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and objectives.
    • Manage aspects of event planning and logistics, including venue selection, vendor negotiations, marketing and promotional activities, registration, and onsite coordination.
    • Cultivate and steward relationships with event sponsors, donors, and community partners to secure financial support.
    • Work with the communications team to ensure promotion of events through various communication channels, such as social media, email marketing, and traditional media.
    • Monitor and evaluate the success of events through post-event analysis, including attendee feedback, fundraising results, and key performance indicators, and provide recommendations for improvement.
    • Maintain accurate records of event-related data, expenses, revenue, and other relevant metrics, and prepare reports for internal stakeholders and funders as needed.
    • Stay informed about trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in event management and community engagement to enhance program effectiveness and innovation.
    • Develop and implement Shamiri’s wellness calendar spanning in and out-of-office activities in collaboration with the Leadership team.
    • Use results from 360 employee feedback survey to be proactive in informing changes that need to be made to wellness programming for staff members.

    Who we're looking for:

    • We are looking for a dynamic, strategic thinker with strong communications skills and a passion for mental health. Ideal candidates should have substantial experience in event planning and a proven track record of executing events from inception to conclusion.
