    Data Science Research Assistant

    Ref: AD/11/130/2022,

    Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the design of studies, implementation and reporting of epidemiological data
    • Extract, organize, store and catalogue large health datasets from multiple sources
    • Conduct data wrangling processes on large and complex health and health-related datasets
    • Implement statistical or other mathematical methodologies as required for specific disease models and analysis
    • Support graduate and research fellows at CEMA and collaborating institutions in data analysis and modelling
    • Use reproducible research methods to document workflows and analysis employed in all projects
    • Provide data support to healthcare workers and public health officials implementing disease control and elimination programs
    • Developing scientific abstracts, manuscripts and or presentations to conferences and other relevant meetings
    • Mentor undergraduate students and recent graduates taking internships at CEMA

    Requirements

    • BSc or master’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Veterinary or Medical degree or other relevant discipline
    • Proficiency in use of a programming language (preferably R) for data analysis and/or modelling
    • At least 1-year analytical experience working in a reputable academic or non-academic organization where data-led problem solving is a core part of the role
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience with healthcare data including longitudinal data
    • Experience in mathematical or statistical modelling and epidemiological analysis
    • Commitment and ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
    • Ability to communicate complex ideas and methods clearly and simply to a non-technical audience
    • Self-motivated

    This is a position whose tenure is a one (1) year contract, renewable based on performance and by mutual consent. The salary is negotiable depending on the level of education and work experience.
